Blacklist - Exist? Know Anyone on it?

I know it’s outlawed to have a formal blacklist, but it definitely exists informally IMHO. For all of the law, accounting, wall street jobs, you can look up someone’s information and see their “disciplinary actions.” Do you know (of) anyone that is on a blacklist - so to speak? I heard of one guy that used to be good at his job, but he decided to shred some documents after getting subpoenaed and got canned… people in the field know him and would never hire him. I’ve also had to search attorneys and some of them got disbarred for big reasons, but someone of them failed to pay the bar fee and got hit with a disciplinary action. (LOL!)

For what it’s worth, I am blacklisted at Delta Delta Delta and Alpha Xi Delta.

I’m blacklisted at Bob’s Big Boy.

If you mean your U4 statement, I know that that is essentially your permanent record. If you get fired “with cause”, it’s extremely difficult to get hired at another place, because that’s the first thing they’ll see from FINRA when they look you up. I have heard at some places that if they want to can you but not ruin your career, they will take you into your managers office and say, “You have five minutes to hand me a resignation letter. Otherwise, we’re going to be firing you for [whatever].” In this way, the employee saves face and it doesn’t go on his or her U4 statement.

i’m blacklisted from paying too much for car insurance

i actually do know some people that are barred from working at this place one was fired for looking up porn on his phone and sending it through work email one was fired for presenting himself as a ‘derivatives expert’ and tried to learn everything from the junior guys. totally bombed a presentation and was let go. he supposedly started to apply to different groups in the same unit using different qualifications. one was fired for colluding with a desk at a competing firm. one was fired for bad-mouthing their manager, one of the emails ended up being circled company-wide. one was hooking up with an md. he’s married. she quit.

He fired an analyst the week before bonuses a few years ago and didn’t pay out a dime to her. To top it off when she applied for jobs at other hedge funds, Loeb would proactively call up the fund manager and trash her to prevent her from getting the job. She ended up suing him for her bonus and for slander. As far as I know the case is still pending, very difficult even in such a blatantly malicious situation to win a suit like this. The bigger fallout I think is the reputation risk of having a lawsuit filed against you. When a potential investor in Third Point runs a background check they will find out about this suit and possibly have second thoughts about investing with a loose cannon. Then again Loeb already has a sh!tty reputation in the industry so this is just another notch in his belt.

I’m blacklisted at some all you can eat restaurant.

But he seemed so nice in the youth group video posted a few days back here. :frowning:

“When a potential investor in Third Point runs a background check they will find out about this suit and possibly have second thoughts about investing with a loose cannon.” Stupid on his part. Almost every client and consulant will ask if your firm has been the subject of any litigation. It is infinitely easier to simply answer no than to explain that situation. Some clients will “blacklist” a manager involved in any litigation as a defendant. Everyone else will question his judgment.

I’m blacklisted from the Playboy mansion. Mr. Hefner doesn’t like young, virile competition. (That’s why Bill Maher is always granted access).

Ahhh, Tri-Delts… gotta love the slogan, “Try Deltas… everyone else has.” I’m definitely not allowed to set foot in at least one of the Pac-10 chapters anymore haha. AZDs… wouldn’t want to set foot in. It varies by school, obviously – I’m sure you weren’t nailing fatties though (well, relatively sure, anyway).

two bb;s I am almost sure I am blacklisted from… one for resigning on one day notice and another for not taking a drug test

^^Lol.^What happens when you resign without respecting you contractual notification period ? Can they not pay you the salary corresponding to the period ? Can they do more, like sue you for damages ?
