BS - Feedback on this Ultra?

If we had a contract/bet for $10K, different priorities for the race as I would train to earn that money and stay at a certain pace and would make it clear to my friend that I would leave him if he couldn’t keep up.

But if he got hurt or died (worst case) and I got some time for some money, I’d still feel like an asshole for leaving him.

That’s a load of sad excuses there ACE and the race hasn’t even started. I’m actually disappointed. If only you could run the way you just walked back your position.

Whatever man, my tone has been clear throughout. I do think I could win one of these races, specifically longer races, especially the 210 mile ones with an advantage to me the more aid stations there are. If you want to choose a race and bet some money on an Ultra, I certainly don’t have any problem doing that, even with 0 race experience. I’ll bet $10K on a long race (100mi, 200mi) - you pick the race and time and I can do some calculations and if I think it is doable on my side, I’ll draw up a bulletproof contract. Payable whenever - not going to set terms for immediate payment, but contract would render losing party responsible for payment, at least. For this coming up race, again, I’m doing it with/for my friend. I’ve said this from the beginning.

Still no feedback from BS from the races… c’mon man I just want some race feedback - what you went through, how the aid stations were, your psychology before, throughout, when starting, 30mi in, 40mi in, 48mi into a 50mi, etc. Anything?

I’ll hold the funds in escrow for the bet. I think the bsds of this thread could do more than 10 dollars!

This. I used to think ACE was wacky af and just talking shovels full of sh!t without anything to back it up. But then dude does a few side steps and traffic light bounces, and bikes around town a few times, and goes and knocks out an almost 18 min 5K and 5 min mile. With the exception of KMD I don’t think any single other person on this site comes close to that with any amount of training. It’s real easy to sh!t on someone’s athletic ability when you’re sitting on the couch drinking beer and hanging your hat on that one time 20 years ago when you ran a downhill mile in gym class. I was on the receiving end of that too a year ago when I first started running and everyone (ACE included, btw) was like haha you can’t run a 4 minute mile backwards, you’re so out of shape, etc. The real competition isn’t whether ACE can finish the course, it’s whether anyone here can actually put their money where their mouth is and beat him on it.

OK ACE go win the Western States 100 this (next) year. Any dollar amount you want! As an added bonus, I will have Chad change my name to “ACE was right” if you succeed. Alternately, please feel free to keep embarrassing yourself.

ACE, all the feedback someone with your limited background could need is in the first post I made. Anything beyond that would be a time waste and re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. But let me try to attempt to give you feedback.

Aid stations: how they were stocked was not that important, this is a clueless question. I mean you need them but in any race but any racer is carrying their own nutrients for the most part and has a few things shuttled around to stations pre-race. Which nutrients/snacks and what gear? Well that’s racer specific and usually honed over lots of trial and error. I literally took midnight to 2am explosive sh*ts throughout Pittsburgh’s trails on one bad week of training before I figured out one brand wasn’t for me. Psychology? It’s hard and you have to run a lot. Obviously it’s difficult but luckily you will have not built up lots of familiarity with the various mind traps specific to running over months of prep. I’ve also never run a race like that completely unprepared so hard to say but my guess is at 30, 40 miles you asked about you’ll be thinking things like, “Wow, maybe I should think things through more.” Again, what kind of questions are these. I mean, you’re going to have to run a lot and prepare by running a lot and you haven’t done the prep and now you’re looking for band-aid solutions.

I think you’re getting confused based on your manic chains of semi coherent posts. I have no reason to doubt your ability to train properly over a realistic time frame and in all likelihood be faster than I was but you’re being an idiot because you’re clearly failing to comprehend that other people in the field and their level of talent while also not comprehending what you’re attempting.

It’s no different than your attempt at qualifying for the X games with snowboarding where you just got in your own words “crushed”. Maybe you can’t hear yourself but the laughable delusions of a weekend warrior from the south rolling up on a real event to qualify for anything just shows you are somehow incapable of considering that there are at any given point a myriad of other athletes far more talented than you that have combined that with a solid work ethic. Anyhow, good luck at the Western 100!

haha great bump bs. enjoyed it

Yeah I think this was the follow up to a $1000 bet I lost in tennis. This contract was for me to get my money back and give me time to practice. I think I was in fact more capable than this person and the contract spaced that out in a way advantageous to me. He declined the second contract (but accepted the first) and told me he would have charged a client $500 to write up a good contract like that (he’s a lawyer). I’m pretty good at writing up contracts, but you’re right, sometimes I do step into things a bit too much for my training/preparation. Sometimes I don’t. That’s what makes it fun. I’ll look into this 100 race, but think a longer distance would be more advantageous to me. I have a ‘death endurance’ ability to go long and slow forever. I still would think 100mi for the pros would be at a pretty fast pace. You’re probably sitting there with popcorn as I walk into the pain of a 50mi. Don’t worry, BS, I’ll post back about how right you were when I’m sitting there with bloody blisters and a broken spirit at 22mi. Keep tuned.

Well said. Also, the thing about me is I always do what I say I am going to do. It makes life easier. But, for me, think about what that means. Last year when we were all hanging out in NYC, I said I was going to try to break the 5min mile in 2018 when was on a weight gain weighing 220lbs at the meetup. It probably sounded real dumb. I said exactly what happened with my patella and it probably seemed like I was backing out of the 5th Ave race, but I was leading into my strategy of doubling down on training through cycling, which equally sounded like a faulty strategy and nuts, but it was my plan, I said I was going to do it, and I did it. Some people I meet think I am a pathological liar. Thankfully, Facebook and Strava help to keep them in check that all my claims and background are legit. I am crazy, I embrace it and live each day to the fullest and have fun. That’s all I do. Sometimes I get some decent stats or sign up for a 70.3 a week before the race and manage to finish it. This is what I am used to. I have always been like this. But, now I am learning superior nutrition and training methods to wing it. Before, I just winged it without strong nutrition/recovery methods. These Ultras are a bit much, but I’m planning to go into heavy cycling + MMA/BJJ/Muay Thai the next three weeks to build to the 70.3 New Orleans Half Ironman on 10/21/18 (Sunday), then 2 weeks later have the Ultra 50mi on 11/03/18. You’re right BS, I may not set any records, but someone messaged me last night about this David Goggins person and I still haven’t seen his bio, but it seems my habits may be similar to this guy. I’ll have to check into this - does anyone have any links or anything? Is it just badass training or good advice/nutrition?

Again with the delusion ACE. You’re not as special as you want to think you are. Any of those pro’s will also be in a longer race and any of them have the qualities you’re alluding to but on a higher level than you could comprehend, coupled with better talent and preparation. With tennis it was the forearm, with snowboarding it was the turns, with the 5 minute mile it was the patella, can’t wait for the next one.

Look, it’s very simple. You said pick a race and time, preferably a long one, then listed 100 miles as an option and specified $10K and said you’d win. I picked one and accepted and now more excuses. Let me make this easier for you since many of these you have to qualify for.

If you win any of these races before the end of 2019 I’ll owe you $10K and change my screen name to a name of your choosing. Otherwise you owe me $10K. Very easy, no more excuses.

Hardrock 100

Leadville 100

Western States 100

One of my former instructors. This guy did four lengths and a push for the record at one of our training schools. Underwater. He passed out, went unconscous and they let him glide in the water unconscious for the record, then revived him. Dude is a machine. https://marklauren.com/en/story

Lol BS, you may as well say “Just win Kona and I’ll give you $10k.” And, to clarify, I mean no disrespect to anyone. It’s just that somebody who wins one of those is basically considered one the the very best in the world.

I’ll check these out. I know nothing about this sport, you’re right. It could be delusion, I won’t deny that.

But, these are probably the most competitive 100s, versus me winning a small 100 in podunk McClellanville SC, right?

What kind of 100mi pace are we talking about here?

I could never win Kona.

What part of this is in any way ambiguous. I chose and accepted and gave you three options, are you backing out? You went from straight hubris to a lot of hee hawing around real quick. Now just apply that agility to your run game.
