I need to do more running. Still looking forward to this race.

I might bring some junk food too. Like Reeses, Snickers, Twinkies … that stuff is amazing sometimes when you’re in a big calorie deficit. And those toastchee crackers — basically my typical gas station foods…

I like it I like it

Some people take a 2L soda like a coke and remove the cap for roughly day prior so all the fizz goes away (so you don’t get gassy). Then you can drink that at stops. That said, even something like chicken noodle soup in a thermos can be nice and salty pretzels or chips are great too.

Wow that’s an interesting way to drink soda. I really dislike farting.

I’m adding PB, crackers, chicken noodle soup, and maybe some bacon cheeseburgers and fries or something

I’m actually up in the air about the soup. I’m getting Japanese tonight so might try to cycle in a bit off of some miso and see how it feels as I know if I place a crazy order there tomorrow for 25x soups, they will see $$$ and deliver, versus some other places, if you know what I mean. I have 32oz containers and want one key soup at each station. There is a damn good she crab soup place near me, but that would be like a million dollars to fill up 32oz containers of that, but might be worth it on one possibly at 40 and 45mi for a treat.

she crab soup and white crackers … damnnnnnnn that sounds soooo good though I definitely need some hummus and pita or something as well … that should be it … maybe some fritos or something or pringles … some easy high calorie starch, etc.

To each their own, but Goretex (means waterproof) is typically not a good choice. It doesn’t breath as well or drain as well and if conditions are really wet they’ll just end up filling with water. around the ankles. Not really a great trail running choice of shoe, probably fine for this event but you’ll want to change if you make this a thing. Look into those cascadias.

damn I totally trust your judgement but its too late for me to order. I looked up overnight shipping, but couldn’t find any. You think I could find these somewhere in retail tomorrow or are they too niche of a shoe for Dicks, but would be at more of the mountain/outdoor stores?

I might call around for some Cascadias tomorrow in my area. Def worth the 1hr trip there and back if I can choose the better gear at this point. I was naive before, but at least realized my naivete slightly a couple days before the event. this miso soup is damn good though - i’m giving it serious thought

I was seriously going to start out in Nike Flyknit racers and my friend on the phone that I’m running with - had like a 10min discussion about those shoes and finally dissuaded me. I am stubborn.

So what I would do, Dicks might have them. But I would never run a race in a shoe I hadn’t trained in on long distances before so I’d advise against a last minute Cascadia purchase. Far too much risk of blisters, etc. Honestly if you haven’t worn those goretex ones before I’d stick with the flyknits if that’s what you’re used too. I always prioritize the runner over the gear if that makes sense so if you’re best in the flyknits, use the flyknits. The other thing you can do is put the new shoes (if you haven’t run in them yet) with your gear at like the 15 mile point and start off in the shoes you’re used to. At that point (15 miles) you should know whether you need an emergency gear change or not based on the sampling of terrain you’ve had. Flyknits will probably also drain pretty well although if the tread is bad and its muddy then you’ll burn a bunch of energy but if it’s not muddy you’ll be fine with light tread.
