Ph.D in engineering, having background in stats, no previous experience in banking. the department is IT operation. How much base and bonus should I expect? Thank you.

BA jobs are based on exp and not on education. In USA will be around 65-75K. not sure about Canada

you’ve got a PhD in engineering and want to be a business analyst? why on gods earth???do you know what a BA does? is it a different job in canada? or is the job market really that bad? talk about under-employment. FYI - mr. nolabird is finishing his post doc in engineering right now. I’m a BA.

I know a BA who has an IT community college diploma and works for a big 5 bank. True story.

Wow …wayyy over qualified to be a BA @ a bank …If you are really in need of a job I would leave the Phd part of you Resume …you might not get called for being overqualified . Most banks have different levels @ the Ba position …Junior BA , BA , Senior BA …etc . and the job responsibilities also vary … I know CIBC and RBC have an army of BA’s most BA’s usually make in between $ 45-55 k …Senior Ba’s maybe be around 60 k

Thanks for your inputs. I thought the working in a IT operation department as a BA in a big bank is stable(according to the hr person; she said that since this job is more about credit data analysis and process (SAS and data process), and other responsiblities that a BA usually has, IB crunch has no negative impact on this position, so it is stable, and you have a phd, people may think that you are very talented, and you are the last one to be laid off, if there is one); the pay may not be as high as that in a big engineering/IT company. However, I found out that the pay in Toronto financial industry, over all, is not high, not as high as expected. Look at those nice high-rise buildings; they make people like me think that people working in those buildings must be richer than other industry…maybe they put too much money on those buildings/facilities, and pay too much to senior management, ceo, cfo, md, and so on. The intermediate level or below cannot get a fat paycheque without a promotion.
