Can I start the CFA early college?

I am a freshman (first-year college) studying a pseudo-business-engineering course. When is an ideal year to start studying for the CFA Level 1 exam? Most information I find online is that people burning themselves out in the 4th year, but I would rather plan on spreading my studying time over the 4 years of college.

Would this be too difficult to do? The later college years will get busier so I plan to make the most of my free time. If it is possible, what resources or study plans would you recommend me to use? It sounds nice entering my first job already earning towards a charter.
