So my car got towed today to a location about a mile away, somewhat up hill. So my roomate was at work and I opted just to put on some shorts and run it. Walked out the door, finished off my cigarette, and went at it. On the good side, I did make it, on the down side, I feel like I was definitely running 50-50 odds on being put in ICU for the weekend. Anyhow, feeling pretty good about the whole adventure now, but definitely a wake up call regarding what’s in store for me when I try to get back in shape after next Saturday. Not good.
Dude lay off the smokes. I finally did after too long and I’ve never felt better. You don’t want your 2 year old catching you smoking on the deck of your hotel room on vacation and then start crying because she thinks you’re on fire. I quit that day.
Smarshy, I know, I’ve been wanting to quite for this past 2 months but didn’t want to risk lack of concentration until after the exam. June 8th, I’m going cold turkey on smokes and coffee and I am very serious about it. I’m hoping if I replace the two with alot of exercise it’ll offset the associated anxiety and cravings. But yes, I am absolutely serious at this point in my life about that, and I definitely see myself looking like Johnny Cash in Walk the Line on June 9th.
I used Commit mints
Swanny, that’s what I did. Cold turkey. And I decided to make it part of a total overhaul…I cut WAY back on eating red meat (like hardly ever), I joined a gym and actually went to it, starting eating vegetables…it actually worked…and seriously, my ability to concentrate and make good decisions went through the roof. Ok now I’m just getting preachy.
i quit smoking 5 years ago when my dad died from lung cancer. don’t want to be a freaking downer on this thread, but man, it’s got to be one of the worst ways to go. stupid me. about 2 months ago i was so stressed about this test i picked up smoking again. (i guess you’re never 100% cured) then one day i looked at my daughter who just turned 1 and didn’t want her to go through what i did in my mid 20’s when my dad got cancer. no urge to smoke after that. maybe you should have a kid, black swan. LOL. sorry to be a downer, dude.
We should start a threat on healthy lifestyle. i would actually be very interested in getting ideas.
No, I mean my grandfather has lug cancer to top it off. So I do know the whole process, and agree with you. Maybe I’ll take an extended trip to Mexico after the exam and work on the kid situation, get a couple little swannies running around yelling jibberish. But Smarshy’s plan is pretty much what I’m aiming towards and I feel pretty confident about the process and excited too.
I tried to start of discussion of terrible things I wanted to have happen to sharon stone after her “karma” comment regarding the earthquack and the AF cops deleted it. So Maybe they’ll go for a health topic.
Get yourself some of this stuff: http://www.snuffstore.co.uk/wilsons-100-snuff-p-277.html Nasal snuff. I gave up in 2 stages - stop smoking, then stop using nicotine. Try and do them both together and it’s harder. So patches for a nice baseline of nicotine then when you are about to crack and have a ciggie, have a pinch of snuff. Knocks your bloody tits off. Then after 2-3 weeks you can start to wean yourself off the patches, and the snuff is always there as a backup.
ha ha…earthquack. That’s what happens in disneyland
Thread on healthy lifestyle. What kind of ideas? I feel that some people believe that there is a magic formula. What works for me is just making sure you get enough cardio in during the week and balance it with a good diet. You can still drink real beer (aka not Light Beer) and still look good. No need to be a bodybuilder.
I don’t see myself doing the staged thing, its not my style, I’m an all or nothing kind of guy, I just see that working best for me.
^ me too. All or nothing. June 30th, 2006 at 12:29pm I was pack a day smoker. 1 minute later I was a non-smoker.
man i’m fat a$$ right now. i really do have to start taking care of myself again after next week.
yeah, i also quit cold turkey… it just sucks for that first month, especially after meals.
I still smoke in my dreams, so I get some of the pleasure that way…
Good luck. I pity your colleagues though.
i smoke too much these days…
Take up chewing. You can run with one in and: 1/ Tastes great 2/ Chicks dig it 3/ Have one anywhere Also the lack of anything to spit into during the exam, and the resulting pool on the test center floor, will help distract those around you and bring down the curve.
