Hey guys, I’m a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce major who will graduate sometime next year. I’m hoping to pass the level 1 this Dec. Does anyone have any career advice or suggestions as to what steps I should take to try and find a job in the industry once I graduate? I have no clue on what I can do for my career right now besides graduate and complete the CFA.
What fields are you looking to find a job in? Whatever it is, now is definitely the time to start looking and applying for positions. The job market is brutal, so the sooner you start, the better chance you have. I’m in the same boat, graduating next spring. I’ve found the market to be difficult, tough to even get an interview.
Go to Grad School, that’s my advice.
I thought you had to have a degree in hand to receive credit for passing L1. You might want to check into that. Also, you’re going to spend all your time studying if you are going to school and taking L1. Fall/Spring senior year is essential for job-hunting, which is very time consuming if you are constantly following up, interviewing and writing to potential job opportunities. I would focus on getting a job for now and take L1 next June if you are so dead-set on it.
Plastics.
Get an education in farming or learn Cantonese. Willy
Fail a couple classes and stay another year…
go the PhD route.
I don’t see any harm in staying in school. That’s the best way to insulate yourself from the brutal job market.
delay your graduation and go for a year in asian
Another option is getting some good volunteer experience abroad. Take advantage while you don’t have competing obligations, especially with such a low opportunity cost.

Why not go abroad, have a blast, volunteer, learn a new language and maybe knock out some of the CFA exams while in the wilderness.
I have TWO friends with MBAs and one of them is also a CF? something…not a CFA but you get the idea. Both guys are smart, young, snappy dressers. I mean who wouldn’t want them in an office. Nothing. Nadda. They aren’t even getting called into interviews. Willy
