Cass Business School MSc - any views on them?

A friend is interested in doing an MSc in Mathematical Trading & Finance with a view to getting a trading gig at the end of it. She already has CFA/CAIA. It costs GBP 20k. The course is run by Prof John Hatgioannides. Anyone got a view on it? Credible? Good investment? Or stinker? And yes, she is cute…

And yes, she is cute… How do we know? Post her pic

a) Never heard of the school b) Inappropriate shower pics in the frat house or she doesn’t exist

There must be some brits here - come on, give me an opinion.

It’s not as prestigious as the LSE or Oxbridge obviously, but Cass has strong links with financial employers in London. Although Cass students used to find work easily before the crisis, I don’t know how it’s changed in the last couple of years.

The thing is LSE and Oxbridge don’t offer the breadth of courses in mathematical finance and trading that Cass do. The facilities and staff are top notch in my opinion. For the kind of specialist masters it offers, I don’t think you will find a better college in the UK.

Not to mention the fact that courses at LSE and Oxbridge often tend to emphasize theory over practical applications. But reputation and prestige are also important factors to consider imo.

What is the placement record from this program? That’s really more important than how broad or deep you think the classes are.

quick question on cass… Do they require GMAT scores?

My understanding of Cass is that it is generally considered not bad, but second rate at best. FT ranking is in the 40 range globally. It may be stronger in this particular discipline however.

Well according to the FT European business school rankings 2009, Cass ranks higher than LSE, Oxford or Cambridge. Those rankings do not factor in specialist masters courses however which is where Cass really excels. All in all, I would say those rakings are highly dubious in their methodology. That is probably true of most if not all business school rankings. Bottom line, if you want to do a masters specialising in mathematical trading and finance, you are unlikely to find many, if not any, better out there.

I see, I was referring to their MBA ranking and that is 41 : http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/global-mba-rankings
