I am done with my month today. Sep 10 - Oct 10 inclusive. I might have a drink or two tomorrow. Don’t really feel any twinge either way, forget any intense longings. No doubt that will change after the first drink.
You sound like me when I quit smoking. At least there is a patch for smoking. No patch for alcohol. Even then, I was ready to chew on raw glass by the 5th day.

The thing is, the past few days I’ve been in a place where there is no easy access to a bar (been out of the city, on the other side of the country)… eventually got access to a car, and went downtown the other day, walked into the entrance of a dark mahogany pub (heard the rah-rah of Giants and Oakland fans), did an about face and walked out… When back in the city, going to make sure to avoid walking by the pubs as much as I can… and then you’re right, eventually it won’t feel like a ‘demon’ that one has to slay.

Had I stayed this dry when I had a job, I would have saved a scary amount of money. Just went 13 days sober. Then went to a place called Smith House and had a flight of Belgian beer samplers. LA bar scene is a piece of crap. Gotta drive everywhere, it’s not worth it. Oddly enough, I drank, but had no cravings or desire to drink anymore afterwards. Nor do I have any desire today either. I think my body is adapting now, because I can study a bit more coherently again and remember things a little better.
It’s too spread out in LA. There should be a strip.
Visit the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica and walk from every bar to every pub and vice versa.
There is a nice small club/bar strip in Hunnington beach, but there should be one in downtown LA & Hollywood.

The girls in Cali are so approachable. I guess nice weather 365 days a year makes you in a good mood.

My goal is to one day date a hot bartender at a high end club or NFL cheerleader. I think that’s harder than cracking the front office.
Pro cheerleader untouchable. Walked into a pub, the Dublin house just never would go there, but just did after getting out of a ‘let’s go to alphabet city’ thing And I’m way too old for that… And so I asked her name, she said ‘blah blah blah’ And so I sip for a night. Wake early, check the wallet, Carly simon in the jukebox… so it goes…
I can’t speak to the cheerleader thing (basically impossible because you’re competing with her attention against rich, famous, young, ripped, celebrities), but I can say that dating a waitress / bartender at a high end bar is not that difficult. Although finance guys typically make it difficult because they approach it all wrong.
Before I get started, I’d like to make the disclaimer that I STRONGLY advise against dating any waitress or bartender. It’s the only strict “rule” I have in dating that I refuse to break. They work in an environment where they are payed to flirt, get involved with work drama (that they inevitably follows them home), and generally a massive headache doomed to failure. Anyhow, if you choose to proceed it’s your funeral.
Getting to know these girls at the bar is VERY difficult because they’re at work, getting blasted with male attention, and any effort you make whatsoever (including a large tip) will only solidify your position as beneath her in the dating food chain. This is a difficult strategy, but it is also the most likely to be pursued because the bar is the only place you’re garunteed to meet these girls. If you’re going to go this route, the way to procede is to convince a few drinking buddies to make the target bar of your choice a hangout on off peak hours when the place is essentially deserted. Sit at the bar, with 1-2 cool friends (not some awkward weirdos) and have your own conversation but involve her as well. Keep the conversation balanced between somewhat edgy while still building rappore without ever mentioning that she’s attractive. You need to establish yourself as someone desireable, and someone who is not another drooling customer.
The other major approach (and best approach) is to meet these girls at the gym during early afternoon hours on weekdays (like 11-2) before their shifts start (they all work out). Unfortunatly, since you’re now in finance and not college, this is likely a logistical impossibility.
One last important point:
Don’t be a dork. If you try to impress them with your stable career they’ll just view you as a potential large tip. Bartenders date guys with motorcycles, they date guys with tattoos, and they date guys with chain wallets and sweet band t shirts. They’re still in a very high school mind set so you’re going to have to wave some bravado. It took me longer than it should have to understand this. Hot girls want to marry stability and white collar jobs in their minds, but instinctually they want to date badasses with motorcycles that work with their hands. This conflict is the source of the whole dating douches then b*tching about it dilemma.

Speaking of NFL cheerleaders, how many actually date NFL players? I know a Bills receiver dated a Cowboys cheerleader and Alex Smith married a Raiderette. I think it’s forbidden for a player to date a cheerleader from the same team, or else you would hear much more stories of player/cheerleader hookups.
Who knows, I guarantee you they’re all hooking up with them on the DL.
