already in ER…taking level 3 in june it seems like FRM could add value to an aspiring FRM any thoughts from those that have it or work with those that do?
Im curious about this also. i hear some people say that the frm is a good complement to the cfa. any opinions?
i have both. haven’t noticed anybody with FRM going into PM.
dont all the VaR concepts translate directly into managing portfolio risk etc and then determinig appropriate hedging strategies…

Ask some PMs if they even know what it is.
a good buddy of mine who was the chief risk officer at a firm and is now the president and chief risk officer of his own firm told me not to do FRM and that CFA is enough in terms of outside credentials. If you are itching for more education, get an MS in FinMath/Financial Engineering or an MBA.
I’m curious, do equity fund managers actually compute any VaR? coming from a value investing perspective, all that VaR stuff is not that useful. thoughts?
Most firms have a risk management department that calculates and reports risk for the traders and investors. The FRM is more useful for people in this role. I agree with mp that people generally won’t care about the FRM if you have a CFA.
ok cool. that answers my question. level III in june then hopefully school is out forever
I’ve done both. FRM was fantastic, extremely useful for my work as risk officer. However, nobody really cares beyond that. CFA was fantastic because it got me the paycheck I was longing for.

^ That’s true. CFA is probably enough in terms of outside credentials.
