CFA here I come!

Hey guys,

I’ve been avoiding this forum… Partially because I was annoyed at the fact that I failed last year…

And also because I’ve been taking CAIA. Knowing that I passed today makes me feel ready to jump back into the CFA bandwagon. Just wanted to say hi to all, and congrats to all who passed level 1 and will be joining us failers from last year.

Just my $.02 from last year… as I noticed many people asking what to study from etc… As many others have been saying, you should definately use CFAI books as your main source… Schweser does a great job summarising, but you would need to also go over CFAI.

Also, what really threw me off last year was the question format. Unfortunately unlike level 1, you can’t rely on Qbank 100%. Just churning out question after question will not fully prepare you! You need to do the EOC questions, and then do them again, and then again, and then again… This will be the new level 1’s tactic of doing Qbank over and over again.

And finally, this is my preference… I know others go through different chapters out of order. But I will be going through them one by one with the one exception of Ethics. I will be skipping this and go back to it at the end. I felt that the topics flowed better, and usually are somewhat dependent on the previous topic.

Good luck all

MK514 How did you find the CAIA material. How much time did it take you to study for it? I’m thinking of sitting March CAIA Level I and Level II CFA in June…

I used the book that they claim to be their text book… which you have to buy online. And used testbank for questions. Just like level 1, you would need to do questions over and over again, but that should prepare you well for the exam. I studied 1.5 months. Roughly an hour or two a day in the evening and also during my 20 min commute each way… Its definately a breeze when you compare to CFA… where I studied 2-3 hours and 6-8 hours on weekends… But I did read the book twice, and did almost a 1000 questions during that time. The pass rate for level 1 september was 74% so I think as long as you put some work into it, you’ll definately pass. I’m planning on taking level 2 next september… hopefully after i pass level 2.
