Just was curious if any of you have experienced job hunting while going through the curriculum. I am currently employed but am looking for a new opportunity - I feel that any job that I apply to I’m either over qualified for, or way under qualified. I am having trouble finding that middle ground. People seem to be impressed w/CFA and have “CFA or pursuit of designation a plus” but then when I interview they say that CFA is probably overkill for what they need.
^Stop interviewing at Primerica.
so you’re not interviewing at KKR then?
That’s not surprising. Underemployment is a big problem in the western world that few are talking about. The goal is to be well positioned for when the baby boomers all retire in a decade. There will be opportunities if you are at the right place at the right time.
Further support for a boomer genocide!
patience is a virtue.
I sometimes find people think they are over qualify on certain roles when they are indeed perfect for them.
Your value, like any commodities, are valued by market price.
If you apply to sufficient number of jobs and what you get called back for is usually around what you’re worth at the time.
Job descriptions are written for the dream candidate who has all the credentials and experience and is willing to work for $45k plus free sodas. No one is qualified, leaving the manager to choose whoever they like, for whatever reason they like because “that’s all we could find.” Often the reason is “she looks good in a short skirt and heels” or “his dad plays golf at my country club.” That’s the advantage of writing position descriptions that involve credential/compensation mismatches. You sound like you are being very particular, but in practice your options are even wider that way.
