I purchased the hard copies of the text books but now I owe duty and taxes on the material, I was under the impression that educational materials where exempt from this?
Probably should be exempt. I never paid any import duty.
Blame Trudeau for it.
That sucks for our friently neighbors to the north.
get hit with the 1.38CAD/USD exchange rate on registration, now you gotta pay 18% duty and 13% HST on the books?
God god Lemon.
it’s more like 1.42 CAD/USD after VISA/Mastercard take their cut!
Just for the privilege in being one of the higher CFAs per capita countries? Yay!
If this tax pushes people away from the CFA and closer to plumbing school, it’s the most efficient tax in modern time. The last thing Canada needs is more Level 3 candidate taxi drivers.
^ think you mean uber drivers, CFA charterholders REPOing their time
Had I known, I could have smuggled some books across the border. For a small fee of course. I’m going to Canadia this weekend.
Called CBSA, they said there is no duty but there is a 5% GST added to the books for $10.45, then UPS added $11.45 in Brokerage fees… thank UPS…
They shouldn’t be charging an additional GST or brokerage fee either.
The CFA charges a tax upon registration so there is no reason for a brokerage fee. Fight those Fu**ers on it. That brokerage fee is a joke.
I got the hard copy as well and there weren’t any additional charges.
they’re shipping via UPS? bastards.
Fight the brokerage fee - they will eventually drop it. If the CBSA isn’t taking any duties wtf are the brokerage fees for?
I did not pay anything extra. What I paid at registration was listed in full.
I just received my L1 books yesterday, and all I was charged was the $20 for shipping and $16 for taxes/VAT. This was stated in the receipt I received the day I registered.
