First time poster who wants to give back to the community after receiving a PASS on the L3. This was my pass matrix. Probably a Band 11 matrix, but Ill take it!
Here is great example between the pass and the fail line!
Passed!! Last year Failed Band 10
2017: 4/2/4 2/1/7
2016: 4/4/2 3/2/5 BAND 10
Surprised how bad my matrix is. Studied like crazy, and put in serious hours for LIII, the most out of all of them. I sailed through LI and LII.
Crazy part is Alternatives is my best topic, I work in it and am a CAIA, never got below 70 - somehow this year AI killed me… that first question… Oh well, passed!
Did what I believe was the right path - read twice the curriculum, did all past AM exams (since the beginning) and mocks, felt pretty confident after the test. I knew the material, but I think my execution was poor. Anxious to see the right answers when they release.
Had a severe concussion 9 days out from a freak workout accident but found a way to make it through the exam without convulsing or throwing up (wasnt able to study beyond 5.24.17 but thought i could duplicate the one mock i took and pass operating at 40-50%). Clearly this was not the case. Ended up missing 1 month of work post exam and I probably wont be back to 100% until mid September to begin the process of avenging the loss.
I tell this story more for the people who may pass up a grand opportunity in the workplace to best position themselves to pass the final leg of this exam. I was one of those guys late last year who preferred to stay in a 50 hour per week gig over 5 days than the all in I.Banking job. Im currently in the post interview phase for an all in spot in Debt Capital Markets and i certainly wont make the same decision i made in 2016 if provided an offer again.
Moral of the story - you cant plan life, make decisions independent of the CFA and find a way to pass regardless of your obligations.
First time failing a test in my career so i look forward to celebrating a sweet victory come summer of 2018 with all the others who will have to sit for this bear one more time.
I remember struggling with the decision to sign up for L2 after passing L1. I wasn’t sure it was the right thing to do, but had encouragement from someone senior to me at the firm, and, frankly, a number of AF folks.
I’m thankful to be done with it after a 3-year journey and to be on the other side. I wasn’t super-active on this forum but the few interactions I had were impactful.
