CFA Level III Study Group - Los Angeles

Anyone interested in forming a study group for Level III in the L.A. area? I am finally taking Level III after an 8 year hiatus. I am in the Pasadena area and just started my readings. Good luck to everyone!

8 years hiatus? What made you decide to finish this darn thing? Good luck to you too.

I have the time and want to finish the “unfinished business”…Previously, I just felt the charter, after all was said and done, is more helpful for folks on the buy side. Most of my jobs have been on the sell side and I am now with a regulator where a number of co-workers are CFA charterholders. What has surprised me the most since I was last sitting for CFA exams is what appears to be the gradual erosion of pass rates. I vaguely recall one Level III exam that had a pass rate on the order of 80% or so. Now the pass rate for Level III is hovering around 50%. So I am somewhat worried about passing this thing!

Mired: Toss me an email. I am in Camarillo, but willing to drive if the group is a good fit. tom at bernzott dot com.

im in downtown LA and just ordered the books yesterday… I’ve studied on my own for the past 2 levels, so im wondering what do you guys typically do in a study group - work out problems? my concern is the writing piece so i’ll be willing to join any sessions where the focus is on writing

I’m in the west-la side but work in downtown. Add me to the group (we should at least start an email group) but I won’t be starting my studies until later in Feb (applying to bschool currently and this has taken up all my off-time) email: mooch22 at gmail.com

im also on the west side working in downtown asset.liquidity at gmail dot com

I had a study partner at L2 and I think it helped. We went through every LOS and then reviewed every practice test together. Unfortunately, he failed L2. I think there needs to be an agenda before every meeting. Ideas: 1) Review questions of each member. 2) Share a tip or shortcut you may have come across. 3) Discuss a pre-determined problem or problems. Especially an approach to max points on the IPS portion of a.m. session.

I like your approach since it is methodical and lays out an expectation of group members before meeting…

Mired— i just sat for the L2 after taking a 4 year break. I found it to be really painful getting ready for it after all that time off. Not sure if this applies to you but I think it caused me to have to grind extra hard. I am in Santa Monica and just got the books. Studied for 1&2 solo, but interested in giving some group work a shot this time. Please email me at cfa3socal at gmail dot com Thanks!
