CFA post effect

The exam is over for 3 days, but its still having me obsessed…I still check AF forum daily, more than once… feel interesting when reading your comments/complaints…Yesterday I checked that I had the right formula on Quant but failed in getting the right input, it makes me sad for a while ( im stupid I know). Chatting with my friends, I still talk bout ETHICS and feedback effect, creative response… lol feel like im a bit of a nerd.

Honestly CFA has taken control of my mind for 5 months, it is not easy to let go and forget it in just a few days. It’s like a part of your life already.

A friend of mine just took Level 3 state that, what CFAI offer doesnot justify 900 hours you gotta spend of your life. Do you agree?

Im from Vietnam, where we dont have much room to apply CFA most of the time. The market is quite undeveloped and easy to be manipulated. Ppl usually ask me, why do you need to study that much. Or some other people ( all of them failed Level 1, or decide not to take it because they dare not), mock me for spending so much time on CFA. Sometimes I feel a bit alone in this field, i had to sacrifice so many things, like time for my family, for my husband, for my friends. When I was on the way, I never regret. But now when the pressure is temporaraly over, reflecting back, im not sure if I fail, i will be able to take it again. Im just confused…

Luckily during this pursuit, my supervisor who is a CFA chartered holder support me all the way. He was been thru done that, got suspcious look and mocking… He see how the designation brings the difference to his career… I cant thank him enough for that mental support.

Feel free to share your story and the obstacles you encoutered along the way. I know we all have different issues, for me a woman in a developing country, woman are not supposed to study too much. They should devote their time to family. Plus, they usually put a doubtful look on the real benefit of CFA. They say " having CFA designation, for what? lots of ppl out there can earn money and get rich without it".

Sometimes I feel like because the way to get chartered holder is too hard, so they need to find a way to DEVALUE it.

got buzzed and already forgotten everything about cfa…

Well maxmeomeo I would say do not let the negative comments discourage you. I have also been told by many that studying the CFA is a waste of my time and energy. Generally when I ask these people with the negative remarks how many levels of the CFA they have passed they say ZERO - either never tried or failed level 1. I hope to have passed the first two levels on my first attempts (50/50 I think :-0 ) and I believe that in general it will have a positive effect on our careers. It is a big commitment to make but one that I am sure will be worth it - particularly for you in a country like Vietnam where I guess there are fewer charterholders.

I’m obsessing over Level 3 already. Come October, it’s on.

Hi Maxmeomeo, that’s really admirable. Press on! I met some ladies from Africa who were taking level 2. The CFA will help you to bring fresh ideas and standards, help your career and (who knows?) ultimately help your economy and country. Don’t give up. You can do it.

THanks Joyfulnew and you guys  Your comments are highly appreciated

Hi max, some very honest things you’ve said. If i remember correctly, one guy was featured in the cover of the 2011 derivatives and portfolio book (vol 6) , from Vietnam…i wonder if he happens to be your boss

My advice dont listen to what they say, may be they ( those that couldn’t pass level 1) are jealous with u and say things to discourage you. I’ve realised the amount knowledge CFA gives you, it’s so handy and readily usable in any situations, in any part of the world. Just keep pushing. CFA charter in itself, may/may not be useful to you, but the knowledge you’d have acquired all the way, will surely be, all the best!

Hi Max , Do it for the women . We too can make our mark and you are lucky if you have a boss and husband to support you. Do not pay heed to what others say . Do it for yourself . Do it for your country .

i love women!
