CFAI L2 Mock 2012

bmer, you montrealer?

I’ll see you at palais de congres this sat?

No, family there though.

i am a mtler.

in mtl, 2 person out of 3 are doing a CFA exam anyway

i am suprise my mom is not doing it.

ya lol, i noticed there is an army of people from montreal doing lvl 1 exams.

Hopefully this will be my first and last attempt at lvl 2.

At my job, we are 7 analysts, and on those 7 analysts we are 6 doing the l2 and 1 doing l1. and we are an actuarial firm haha.

CFA here is like paying your taxes. you have to do it

Lol… summerside, I assumed by your name that you were from PEI. Is that your place of origin? I am located in Shediac, NB, just across the water from Summerside, if that’s actually what you meant…

I am taking CFA exam in Fredericton, last year we were about 40-50 people for all 3 levels…

On another note, just completed PM of 2012 CFAI Mock. 48/60 = 80%

I am stoked.

My scores for 2011 AM/PM 75%/87% and 2012 AM/PM is 79%/80%

I almost feel confident!

Ya, in montreal there must be at least a 1000 people righting the exam in the same room in June.

Dec there were maybe 350-500 or so

I just got 68%/73% in the 2012 mock, although that was entirely due to the rediculous FRA sections which I scored 50% on. I’m not feeling particularly confident in any way to be honest and am running out of time to learn this stuff.

FRA was pretty rough in both sessions of the 2012 Mock. I can only hope the real exam would at least be easier to understand or sort through the data…

nvestn, did you take the 2012 under exam conditions since those scores are pretty high, e.g. time restricted to 3 hours, no peeking at formulae etc? I was pretty time constrained on the PM session, so rushing through at the end cost me some marks.

I did, mostly. I did time myself for 3 hours, but I have to say I stopped the clock and took a break to walk around my office once or twice and had to answer a few phone calls. It’s as close enough to exam pressure as I feel I need to be realistic. I finished the PM with 8 minutes left on the clock.

No peeking at formulas.

nvestn,

God it took me a while to understand that PEI was Prince Edouard Island. that’s because I am french. lol.

Actually I’m not from there, I am from montreal, but i know that’s a town there. Long story short, my name is because of that place even if i have never went there.

oh and btw, I scored 78%, 77%,78% , 73% on mock 2011 AM PM 2012 AM PM

i don’T know what happened in 2012 PM. but whatever i am confident that it’s a outlier

I still haven’t taken 2012 mock yet, do you guys think it’s worth taking or should i focus on reviewing my weaker topics? I got a 61% on the 2011 mock, but i bombed the ethics portion because I didn’t know soft dollar standards or Prudent Investor rule. Without those questions, I got a 68.5%.

I’ve since read up on those ethics sections and wrapping my head around Quant. Will be done with Quant by tonight but not particularly strong in portfolio management either.

Yeah definitely take 2012. I think it’s the hardest CFAI mock available. Definitely harder than 2009-2011. I thought 2011 mock was actually pretty easy.

I recommend taking 2012. Only by doing mocks do you find out what you don’t know. Just studying gives you the false impression that you know more than you really do when it comes to being asked a question in a different way.

Summerside, aaah I see! No worries. I am also french (Acadian french, not Quebec french… 2 different things! haha) Friend of mine that works for Fidelity Invesments is writing his L2 in Montreal saturday as well…

Those are great scores! We are fairly close to one another. My mean score is 80.25% with a standard deviation of 5% for those 4 sessions… I have a hard time imagining we could fail this if the real thing is even close to the Mocks, or at least this is what I tell myself.

For all 4 mocks I did not feel good about them as I answered the questions. But once I started marking them I did really well, couldn’t believe I only got 8 wrong for the 2011 PM. I have to be careful not to become overconfident and still keep studying hard!

I feel very confident for the exam and you should to with those scores! If i don’t pass, it will be 1 of those 2 scenarios :

  1. I paniced

  2. I died on my way to the exam

Last year I choked due to time on the AM session : I was doing time checks every now and then and somehow screwed up in my calculations and thought I had plenty of time so I slowed down. Ends up I looked at the clock and realized I had 30 minutes left to answer about 16 questions. I just panicked and my brain went apeshit. I couldn’t focus because of the panic and guessed 12 out of those last 15 questions.

Almost threw myself in front of a transit bus on my way to lunch… Managed to compose myself and came back hoping to make up for my crappy AM session in the afternoon. Finished 45 minutes early in the PM session and felt really good about it… but it wasn’t enough, ended up with a Band 10 fail… A part of me died that day.

I bought a 40$ so-ugly-can-go-under-200-meters-of-water watch to have a STOP WATCH.

you start it at the begining. you write your time at each set to evaluate how much time you are losing/getting

that what i do.

I am confident you will pass this year and it will be an even bigger acomplishment in your life than it would have been last year.

band 10 is not like froch vs Bute. you revenge fight worth doing it.
