Hate to be that guy, but what for those of you who have taken this portion of the CFAI Mock Exam – the one titled ‘March Mock Exam AM Session’, what did you score?
This was actually the worst of all my mocks @ 77%. I’ve yet to go over it though. Wondering if I’m having a bad day or if this was more difficult than the others for anyone who has taken it relative to Scheweser or other CFAI Mocks – thanks guys.
march or marck? if its march then I scored 83%. and btw 77% is not that bad.
Good catch on the typo.
77% isn’t a sure-fire pass either – had some dumb mistakes after going through the mock. How have you prefmored on the others? Have you taken any Kaplan?
nope, just took two official mocks. I dont like kaplan mocks, they are more number & calc based.
are dre any other CFA Institue mocks except for the 4 mocks (2 AM 2 PM) available on dre website???
Wow! You guys scored pretty high… Unfortunately for me, I just took the March Mock 2014 - AM session and only scored 65%… Honestly, I could really use some advice on how to score higher…
So far I’ve been stuck between the mid 60’s scoring percentile and I am really struggling to break above 70%… It’s quite discouraging since I’ve been studying for a while now (approx. 7-8 months) yet I can’t identify where I am deficient. My scoring has not been very consistent either.
I’ve done about 3 schwesar mocks exams and 2 CFAI mock exams. All the assessment problems on the website, all the practice problems in the schwesar notes, about 2k questions from Qbank, and currently realizing that I need to go through the EOC questions from the CFAI curriculum (i skipped them for the longest time, I’m regretting it now since I noticed how long it takes me to go through them).
Does anyone mind sharing what material (study guides, CFAI books, etc) that I should focus on to improve my score? I’m really feeling the pressure at this point because with only 12 days left…I don’t know if I will pass. I can’t even pinpoint where to focus on since my scores are so inconsistent, sometimes I will score above 80% in certain areas, but the next mock I will hit below 60s.
It’s literally driving me nuts! I really want to pass on my first try…Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hydrogen …
u are not alone …
thats all i can say … focus on completing the EOCs … and learn from ur mistakes …
This is my second attempt doing level 1. I failed last winter with a band of 10. The thing I regretted the most was
-
not doing the EOCs again before the exam.
-
Relying too much on schweser Q bank and mocks which are really just number crunchers and nothing like what the CFA mocks are like which test your logic more than the numbers.
-
Focusing too much on economics.
-
Not reading the standards booklet again the last few days.
@jlion1786 - I agree, I’ve been lurking around these forums and I see this come up quite a bit. I felt like I committed the same mistake as well, which is why I’m panicking to finish up the EOCs and hopefully fit in another CFAI mock or redo the same one for the sake of getting my timing down before the exam.
I think Econ from the EOCs might be more helpful that the ones in schwesar qbank, the format is very different, but I do feel at times the EOC problems contain a lot of redundant arithmetic (especially in the quants section).
Hi Hydrogen,
I am in the same boat as you! I guess its good to hear other people are having similar issues…
I wasn’t planning to re-do the EOC questions from CFAI, but now after hearing some of these responses… I may in fact do that.
After taking my first Mock, I noticed FRA was troubling for me. So I decided to do about 200 FRA questions from the Q Banks. I noticed a drastic improvement when I took my 2nd mock exam (keep in mind, the second mock was Schweser). Scoring ~78% versus my original 62%.
Just my point of view, this is my first time taking the exam… But I plan to do as many questions as possible from now until next Friday. I will try to review the CFAI EOC for troubling sections.
Mock exam scores so far;
I scored ~73% overall on the 2013 CFAI mock exam (last week).
Plan to take the CFAI version A morning session on Wednesday night, and afternoon session Thursday night.
Version B - Full day on Saturday.
I also have the 6 Schweser mock exams.
So far, scored ~68% yesterday on the first mock exam from Schweser.
Good luck !
Thanks for sharing Ephilly. Just took my PM session for the March Mock…scored slightly higher than the AM, but not passable.
I will just have to keep hashing out those questions and hope for the best in the next 2 upcoming weeks. Best of luck to you as well
Not sure if it works well for anyone else, but I’ve been taking a mock and then immediately going over the answers – anything that I got wrong I drill a lot; and then I’ll make notes with just those details as bullet points.
I’ve done this for every mock I’ve taken, which is about 7 now. I have a handful of sheets of stuff that I had gotten wrong, (or guessed and got right).
Certainly helps me find my weak points
@Mosstastic - I have been doing pretty much the same thing that you mentioned with the schwesar/CFAI mocks. I make notes on the mock printouts and review them afterwards as well. Just curious…what was your preparation process prior to taking those mock exams and how did you improve your score? Did you focus more on the CFAI curriculum/EOC? or use schwesar for most of your study?
I only used CFAI curriculum for EOC. Everything else was done via Schweser.
Oh, and I’ve read the Ethics portion of CFAI, and generally take about 10-15 ethics QBank questions before bed. Nice little refresher.
I do fine on my Schweser mocks, but seem to score about 5% lower on CFAI. Here’s to hoping
