I also got the Houston CFA invite and will decide whether to attend. I’m one of the geezers here and not currently working in the Financial Services industry. (I’m in Energy Consulting-type work.) My membership application page now has a tick on all criteria including ‘48 Months Submitted, 48 Months Accepted’ and says: “Congratulations! You have been approved for Membership.” The local society has accepted me as a member but I haven’t paid any dues to the CFAI or the society yet. Does that mean I am now a charterholder or do I have to wait for a letter from CFAI?

No… you are merely a member of CFAI. You must check to ensure you are a REGULAR member. Also, your Profile page should update to show your name as “XXX, CFA”. At this point, you can contact the CFAI to make sure your charter has been awarded to you. If “yes”, then use the designation. Otherwise, wait for the official letter from Jeff D of CFAI which will explicitly state that you can use the CFA designation. Should arrive in the next few weeks, as the CFAI are already updating the CFAI database. Hope this helps…
Lion Zion, For whatever it is worth my profile has not been updated on the site, but I called and they said my charter had been awarded and that I may use it. So, it may be worth your time to call. None of us really know what is going on over there, we can merely speculate.

Good news! I noticed that about 4 days after my Profiles was updated to “wilier, CFA”, the CFAI Member Directory was also updated… YEEEHAAAA!! 
Hi 90secs, I am happy to see another Houston person too! I am a fairly new analyst (used to be on Private Wealth Mgmt side) but always wanted to work somewhere with their own equity product. I will be at the Charter ceremony, would love to say hi if you are there. I cover energy/materials/healthcare. Would love to hear your thoughts on oil supply/demand. Hopefully will see you there!
