Anyone going to this Level 1 Surgery tonight organised by the CFA society of the UK? Anyone know if these are good? I signed up because I figured any directed assistance with FSA would be helpful and mainly beause it’s free
Free…you say? I thought you had to pay up to join the society?
ah good point - not technically free. The society membership costs £90 but that was a loss-leader for me to get a £100 discount on Stalla material
That was my understanding…are you using Stalla material in addition to the CFA curriculum?
Yeah I’m using both. I went to hear Peter Olinto do an intro to FSA (and basically pitch for Stalla) a couple of months ago and was really impressed so using Stalla in conjunction with the curriculum. The surgery was pretty good. I’d recommend it for anyone in the UK - esp if you are already a member of the UK Society since it costs nothing further. It was run by a co called Quartic who I’d never heard of to be honest but they were good. We pretty much nailed some of the harder parts of SS9 last night which for me was well worth the 2 hours. There are more of these on the CFAUK webpage - it barely scratches the surface of the curriculum but they are good for improving understanding of maybe 5 or 6 really key concepts per study session.
That does sound good, I could certainly do with some help on SS9. I went on to the cfauk site, which linked to stalla. I have spent 20 mins looking at the products and trying to work out of the prices are pre discounted or not…less than helpful, I only hope their course material is better than their website! I have worked through the cfa curriculum and now I need testing…i considered their passmaster and mock exams…having tried both format, what would you reccomend? Tks.
the passmaster is pretty good. The homeworks take forever to do but by the end you can instinctively answer general mathematical questions now. However, there is less focus on the “increasing x will have what effect on the following ratios:…” sort of questions which I understand is more key to the actual exam. However, if you can nail the maths, that level of understanding should probably follow stalls’s worth it just for the Olinto lectures. “You gotta know this stuff inside. And out.”
