i’m no real fan of the clintons, but i don’t see why anyone would get upset at one hedge fund for hiring the daughter of a former president, whoever it is or however qualified one may think she is (or isn’t). that hedge fund is making a hiring decision in a way they believe will help them. if it doesn’t work out for them, ie she isn’t able raise money (or any other tasks they hired or for) like they thought that was their risk; if she is, they were the firm that actually decided to hire her. as long as they keep it ethical, which is something i think you have to give them the benefit of the doubt on, i don’t see a problem. do i wish it was me they hired? sure. i think a lot of us are, apparently, a little jealous. but that isn’t a reason to get bent out of shape. this is a part of capitalism.
We are really out of things to talk about… What does everyone think of Vick getting 23 months?
23 months - way too long!
I gotta avoid football. After yesterdays outing, I am trying to forget that my city has a “pro” football team.
I am surprised some of you can type with such chips on your shoulders.
You guys are so late to this story. She was hired last fall and hired into a role not as a typical analyst role. Her stats are also solid… Stanford Oxford McKinsey… Change her name and everyone would be all over how great a hire then made… Also some funds exp AC focus heavy on politics being on staff just as Carlyle has H. Bush, Summers, Paulson and Rubin on staff at one time or another.
Anyways, who gives an f? I think the bigger story here is that many a celebrity, politician, athlete (Lenny Dykstra) is participating in the capital markets. This was not the case 10 years ago, and as a self-proclaimed contrarian, we are close to a hf/pe top.
i worked with a fund that had like 30 mlb’s players invested in it… was awesome to see the materials going to a guy you watch on tv
You guys ever heard of Bill Clinton? Some of these responses are hilarious. Perhaps you should read up on him a bit. He wasn’t just a president. The guy is brilliant. Being brought up by someone at that level cannot even compare to a Stanford education or an Mck stint or anything else. Normal people go to Stanford/work at Mck.

From Wikipedia: In 2003, Clinton joined the consulting firm McKinsey & Company in New York City, reportedly earning a low six-figure salary; she was the youngest person hired in her class, hired alongside those holding MBAs.[13][12] In the fall of 2006, she left McKinsey and went to work for Avenue Capital, a hedge fund run by Marc Lasry, a loyal donor to Democratic causes generally, and heavy supporter of the Clintons.[12] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A quick search on Marc Lasry yielded this page: http://www.clintonglobalinitiative.org/NETCOMMUNITY/Page.aspx?&pid=1138&srcid=1113

I think it’s ridiculous that the country takes dog fighting THIS seriously. When I was eight years old I destroyed an entire ant hill, causing every single last ant to die, including the queen. Does this make me a mass murderer?

Does this make me a mass > murderer? Although I was joking about my first post, there is serious inconsistency here. Nobody was protesting when Reuben Droughns went to court for beating up his wife. And I realize I’m being pretty insensitive here, but nobody was protesting when Sean Taylor pled guilty to aggravated assault for threatening people with a gun. Don’t even get me started on the Ravens. But Micheal organizes dog fights? Put him under the jail!!! My personal favorite, “suspend him even after he gets out of jail”! Not that I think what he did was right, I just think the league should be consistent…
Exactly. I’m surprised that the media/public have not demanded a reduced sentence. This is dog fighting on his own property premises. Wrong, yes. But I believe some child molesters and rapists have lesser sentences. Yes, I get they want to send a message, but this actually makes me wonder if this is a lil good 'ol fashion suthern racism.
The dogfighting part isn’t the only offense though. Some of the other charges were that he bankrolled the fights, and there was inter-state gambling going on unlicensed. Nobody cares about that though, so the dogs get most of the attention.

Yeah, but Ray Lewis and his friends bought knives and then went out, got drunk and then stebbed somebody. Nobody “made an example out of him”…
Touche…I agree that the league needs to be more consistent. I just wanted to mention the fact that it wasn’t just dog fighting that he was charged with. Ray lewis plead guilty to obstruction of justice and didn’t testify against the other two guys, who were also acquitted, and was fined $250k. I’m not saying I agree with someone getting away with murder though, it’s horrible. Vick’s supposed friends all turned on him, and then he admitted guilt. What were they supposed to say…“It’s ok Mike, we forgive you?” He broke the law and was found guilty. Lewis broke the law, just like OJ, and was found not guilty due to better lawyers or whatever the case may be. I’m assuming it was a lack of evidence that got Lewis off. Vick was sloppy, and had the damn FBI after him. He broke the law and probably got a similar punishment that anyone else would have gotten for the same crime. As far as the NFL goes, they need to keep a tighter leash on players that act out, or else they will start losing respect from most of their fans.
True - I think he also got busted for weed too. Still, to ruin a man’s career for this crime seems harsh.
If you would have gotten arrested for this and had to spend 23 mo’s in prison your career would probably be ruined too. That’s why you don’t bankroll dogfight’s, sell weed, organize large scale gambling at your residence, etc. Of course, I’m assuming you don’t do those things. Besides, he’ll serve 19 months tops, and he’s eligible for a halfway house in 13 months.
Here’s my other argument. Everyone involved in this case was guilty before the indictments even went out. Protests were taking place in front of every courthouse and NFL office across the country. With the way the media threw this in everybody’s face, there was no way Vick’s “friends” weren’t going to turn on him. Everyone involved was considered guilty from the instant this story hit the wires, so independent of the outcome of the case, Vick was going to learn a lesson one way or another…
