I am a CPA. You DO NOT need to take the intermediate accounting. Do not waste your time. If you do not understand accounting and you go take intermediate acct class, you are gonna fail anyways because you do not have solid foundation(cuz you did not take beginning acct classes). Int. acct class teach complicated stuff which CFA does not get into. If acct section was a problem for you, I highly recommend you to take Stalla lecture by Peter Orlinto. I took his CPA lecture and passed with ZERO problem and he essentially got me into CFA as well (he teaches live classes in NYC). Since he’s a CPA, CFA and JD, he’s incredibly helpful and good. Get Stalla lecture DVD’s - he does it on DVDs as well as live classes in NYC. Not sure where you live but his lecture is awesome.

Does he write his name "XYZ GUY, MBA, CPA, CFA, JD, FRM, Esq. ?? Financial Accounting is probably a good thing to look into, but the intermediate 1 and 2 course are the real ‘meat’ of accounting. I don’t think it would worth taking both like Elliot said though, because they are very difficult and not all the information is relative. A course that teaches concepts needed for the CFA is probably your best option. Or take the two basic accounting courses, then you will have a great base to go off and can learn the others stuff on your own.

Olinto has GREAT delivery. Manages to keep you focused. Does come across shallow at times though.

If you want a good textbook about Intermediate Accounting to learn from, I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/Intermediate-Accounting-Donald-Kieso/dp/0470374942/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311278082&sr=1-1 Get the prior edition to save money. It was the book I used for my intermediate accounting courses and it is great. It’ll teach you everything that you want to know about those topics.

I took his course in DC this march. Went from <50 in FRA on last year’s exam to scoring an average of 86%, yeah I’m proud of that, in all of the FRA sections spread over six mock exams. His prep materials are awesome too. I think I smiled every time an FRA vignette showed up on the exam. I took two accounting courses in college. They prepared me for the L1 FRA, but hardly touched the surface for L2 FRA. If you’re struggling with FRA as I once was then definitely consider John Harris.
