College student asking professionals about the "real world"

“you’ll find that “cougars” can be incredibly sexy and, in many cases, more so than college girls by a long shot.” Soo true!!!

I would also say that if you have any desire to travel, do it before you start work, even if it puts you into debt. Even though I knew I would only have two weeks vacation when I started my first job, the reality of how little two weeks is didn’t set in until it was too late. Fortunately I have four weeks now, but even that doesn’t feel like enough sometimes. Looking back, the real world was a pretty tough adjustment for me coming out of school.

Think hard about what you want to do. Do your best to figure that out, then committ. Have a plan coming out of college - make sure that plan includes detailed interim steps that are achievable. Execute against that plan. Your general satisfaction will be far higher with this course vs. “drifting around” for a while, hoping that something emerges (it won’t). Life after college is different, but not neccessarily the drudgery that so many people claim to endure. One must be more efficient about use of time. I do highly encourage having multiple serious interests outside of work - it keeps life interesting and fulfilling, (esp. if you do not get fulfillment at work).

i was just at a university campus a couple of weeks ago and they had all these frosh activities. i miss college life. but hey theres always getting a masters degree to look forward to.

Trade in the Kegs of Natty Ice for Patron Silver Frat Houses for Ultra Lounges Malls/A&F for Saks/other boutiques Girls who look like your younger sister for real women Bar food for Smith and Wolensky 6 train for mb shared dorm for a chic apartment Cheer up, life gets better…

best part of the real world is not having roomates.

Patron Silver…waste of money Ultra lounges? I don’t like hanging out with a bunch of wannabees Saks/other boutiques…yea, maybe after I pay off my student loans 6 train? Yea, if you like having your crotch shoved up against some random fat women in one of the most crowded trains in NYC. Chic apartment? I dont have either the three digit salary nor parents who are still helping make my ends meet out of college. I still prefer coed dorms, nothing like a regular hook-up with a girl on the floor below you. This sums up somebody a little over a year out of college.

And living with 5 other guys my senior year off campus was prob one of the best experiences of my life. There was always a reason to drink.

Real women in the real world are SO much more interesting and enjoyable, if you know how to screen out the dullards. (I’m sure women find the same about men too; at least I hope so) The problem with the real world is that people are stressed about lots of real world stuff (how am I going to eat/find a job/pay the rent/get X done starts being a heck of a lot more stressful than “how am I going to get my term paper done.”)

^ it should be comprehended as MB for 6 train not the other way around. And living with 5 other dudes gets old real fast. EDIT: 3 digit salary? WTF?

Florida_Gator, you’ll be starving on $50K in Moscow… Plus the “new” experience will not be so fun

I hated undergrad, loved the real world, hate my grad program, miss the real world. I think it largely depends on how successful you are at your job, most people that miss undergrad are simply finding themselves unsuccessful and unrewarded at their current job. If you get a good job and are happy with your income and feel that you are upwardly mobile and being challenged with what you do, you will LOVE the real world. I gained intense satisfaction from having extra cash to do things with, going on nice weekend trips and dinners, etc. My undergrad felt horrible, I hated drinking sh*t beers on special at dive bars and was never one to crash on couches and whatnot, I don’t know, I’m too grown up with standards too high for that crap.

Beer in College =$1 Beer in Real World = $6 At least girls in the real world dont get ridiculously wasted to the point that they cant walk like they did in college… In the real world… they take cabs.
