I read somewhere that a company conference call is not public information? That sounds very weird to me. Are we suppose to treat a company conference call (open to public) as non-public, hence information in the call can not be acted on?
A conference call with analysts is not public. Any information released there is consider non-public until released.
A conference call open to the public to discuss publically reported results would not in itself be considered non-public. If however, management were to reveal something (of significance) not included in the public financials then that could be material non-public information that one would have to encourage management to disclose publically before acting on.
At least this is my understanding…
Conference calls and exclusive managment meetings are material public information.
That’s how you write research reports.
Conference calls not accessible by the public is non public.
