Confused about the study material

Hi all, I’m planning to appear for FRM part 1 in November 2013. I have known/heard that FRM portion tends to change very frequently every time. I have got (schwesers) books from a friend who appeard the exam in November 2012. She cleared the exam. I am confused as to now that should I be continuing the same books for the exam or have to buy new books for November 2013. Plus how would I know if there’s change is their in particular book and to what extent?

I have also heard that GARP recommends a set of reading to understand the concepts, so confused on that part too. I didn’t actually understand that part.

Plus any tips you guys have on facing FRM part 1 please let me know on chaingangritesh@gmail.com

P.s. I’m CFA Level 2 Candidate.

Chaingang,

Do yourself a favor and get the new material for 2013. According to the following link from Schweser, almost a quarter of the exam material has turned over between 2012 and 2013:

https://www.schweser.com/downloads/brochures/2013_frm_whats_new_part1.pdf

Level 2 is even higher turnover, so I feel your pain. But don’t get stuck with outdated material.

Please see this link (the changes aren’t that great)

http://www.garp.org/media/1106184/frm_study_guide_changes_2013.pdf

I too am using the 2012 november and sitting the exam in May 2013.

As well as being a training provider, Schweser is also a business so of course they will say what ever to sell you more material. If you follow the link above (directly from GARP) you can see what the changes are. Infact some of the reading have totally been removed for the 2013 exam and other have simply been moved from one book to another Its easy to follow.

Hi,

I registered to sit for FRM part 2 exam in May 2013. Now that 40%+ material is changed I have deferred to Nov 2013. Just wanted to know what is the probability of furhter revision in syllabus in next six months! Someone told me they don’t change it during the year. Syllabus is revised only from Nov to May (when year changes). Please let me know if you have any inputs so that I can start with available material safely!

Thanks
