Congresswoman shot dead

The irony is unbelievable. The gunman’s Internet rants were discounted as simple political trolling on non-political blogs/forums. I’m not saying, I’m just saying… http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/01/likely_jared_lee_loughner_internet_postings_discuss_nasa_conspiracies_existence_of_god.php?ref=fpb

Follow this link and scroll down to the litany of pictures and protest signs encouraging the murder of former President Bush at protests in San Francisco. Well, maybe marcus pheonix shouldn’t view these, it may make his head explode as it will shatter his dearly held assumptions. This stuff makes the angriest tea partier seem pretty tame. And so marcus doesn’t miss the point yet again, I share these not to say that the left is worse than the right when it comes to vitriol, but to show that this stuff exists on all sides. These are pretty disturbing. http://www.zombietime.com/zomblog/?p=621

I’m trying not to take sides here, but MP’s main points are regarding the acts and comments by Tea Party leaders, while most of the examples put forth from others are from random nutcases on the left. I don’t think there’s any argument that there are political nutjobs on both sides of the aisle. I think the point is that you don’t typically hear this type of stuff from party leaders. And yes, I understand that the “tea party” is not a real party, and Sarah Palin has no real authority within the group, but she is still essentially the de facto “leader” of the “tea party.” And other comments MP quoted are from actual candidates, etc., not just wack jobs with signs. Otherwise one could easily bring up the “Westboro Baptist Church” as an example of ultra-right-wing nutcases.

I have and always have denounced this sort of rhetoric on part of some liberals. Since you want to resurrect this topic, let me ask you this. How many of these far leftist actually made good on their threats, was there even a single attempt on the life of any leader/ activist/ organization on the right in the last ten years? Compare that to this list below of anti-government, anti abortion, far right types only in the last couple of years: - May 2009: A “sovereign citizen” named Scott Roeder walks into a church in Wichita, Kansas, and assassinates abortion provider Dr. George Tiller. – June 2009: A Holocaust denier and right-wing tax protester named James Von Brunn opens fire at the Holocaust Museum, killing a security guard. – February 2010: An angry tax protester named Joseph Ray Stack flies an airplane into the building housing IRS offices in Austin, Texas. – March 2010: Seven militiamen from the Hutaree Militia in Michigan and Ohio are arrested and charged with plotting to assassinate local police officers with the intent of sparking a new civil war. – March 2010: An anti-government extremist named John Patrick Bedell walks into the Pentagon and opens fire, wounding two officers before he is himself shot dead. – May 2010: A “sovereign citizen” from Georgia is arrested in Tennessee and charged with plotting the violent takeover of a local county courthouse. – May 2010: A still-unidentified white man walks into a Jacksonville, Fla., mosque and sets it afire, simultaneously setting off a pipe bomb. – May 2010: Two “sovereign citizens” named Jerry and Joe Kane gun down two police officers who pull them over for a traffic violation, and then wound two more officers in a shootout in which both of them are eventually killed. – July 2010: An agitated right-winger and convict named Byron Williams loads up on weapons and drives to the Bay Area intent on attacking the offices of the Tides Foundation and the ACLU, but is intercepted by state patrolmen and engages them in a shootout and armed standoff in which two officers and Williams are wounded. – September 2010: A Concord, N.C., man is arrested and charged with plotting to blow up a North Carolina abortion clinic. The man, 26-year–old Justin Carl Moose, referred to himself as the "Christian counterpart to (Osama) bin Laden” in a taped undercover meeting with a federal informant. See a pattern here? FYI…most liberals don’t even own guns. What are they going to do, whack you on the head with a bouquet?

I see yet another pattern of you cherry picking and essentially assuming that anyone who committed violence must be on the right, almost by definition. You’ve called Loughner a right winger, yet his politics were all over the place and not even coherent. Same is generally true for your examples above - they are all wack jobs! It is their delusions that pushed them to murderous extremes and not their politics. Labeling someone an “agitated right winger” does not make it so, but only reveals your inability to think objectively. Your caricatures are stunning. This is apparently how your mind works: “the killer was an anti-government anarchist, people on the right generally want smaller government, so he must have been motivated by the Republicans!” That’s really glib.

Like I said before, I have no problem with people wanting smaller goverment or the Republicans. I was specifically comparing the fringe elements on both sides, which you pointed out in your previous post and just wanted to highlight the fact that the fringe elements on the left (at least in USA) typically do not translate their words into actions. Won’t you agree? And Byron Williams was an a agitated self proclaimed Glenn Beck fan. He was personally motivated by the rantings of Glenn Beck who mentioned attacking an obsure organization called the Tides foundation numerous times on his program. "Shot and captured after injuring two officers, Williams, on parole for bank robbery, told investigators that he wanted “to start a revolution” by “killing people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU,” according to a police affidavit. His mother, Janice, told the San Francisco Chronicle that her son had been watching television news and was upset by “the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items.” Take a read at the link below for more details. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/30/AR2010073003254.html
