corner portfolio weights

Can someone help me with this algebra .092 = W1(.085) + (1-W1)(.097) I can get this far and then short of using trial and error I am stuck

.092 = 085W1-097W1 + 097 Open parenthesis.

Never mind I got it .092-.097/.085-.097

First off, do you have the Returns backwards? I always put the largest first. so it would be -> .092 = (.097)W1 + (.085)(1-W1) Then I always do the following: (1) MULTIPLY IT OUT: .092 = 0.097w1 + 0.085 - 0.85w1 (2) SUBTRACT: .007 = .012w (3) DIVIDE: w = .5833 (or .007 / .012) I think I did that right???

Guess it doesn’t matter which way you set up the formula (largest / smallest) - its just habit for me…

.092 = W1(.085) + (1-W1)(.097) ==> 9.2% = 8.5*W + 9.7 - 9.7*w ==> 9.7w - 8.5w = 9.7 - 9.2 ==> 1.2W = .5 W = 5/12
