Credit Underwriting to IBanking

Anyone ever taken this route before? Searched all over The Vault and Wallstreet Oasis but can’t seem to find anything about this route. Any opinions from people in the industry as to if this is a good route to take would be appreciated. I should also clarify that this would be for commercial credit underwriting at a bank.

IB’s typically only hire out of UG and MBA except for very senior positions. If you are a couple yrs into your career it will be very, very difficult to get into IB until you get an MBA. You shouldn’t have a problem getting an associate position out of a good mba program, though.

There’s a ton of career switchers that go into ibanking as associates (after good MBA program) and they have no ibanking experience whatsoever. I wouldn’t expect many people to have ibanking exp (Analyst level), then do MBA, and then go back into ibanking (as Associate). From what I hear, many get burnt out after doing 2-3 years as an Analyst and never wanna go back again. So worry about getting into top 10 MBA instead.

You don’t need IB exp coming out of a MBA program. In fact, Most people who get IB associate jobs have no IB exp. They come from a variety of backgrounds. Underwriting exp is pretty solid. You will be in good shape if you get into a top 15 program.
