Creighton University Boot Camp

Hello, I am thinking to register for this boot camp for level 2 exams in 2012. If you attended this before, was it helpful? Many thanks

Thanks Jay, I noticed that. However, I am more interested in level 2 recommendations.

I took the boot camp for level 3 and it was awesome…probably the most productive 4 days of my study throughout the entire program and definitely helped me pass. That being said, Marc Lefebre, who taught the vast majority of level 3 boot camp, is the reason my experience was so good. He is a great instructor and teaches the exam as much as the material. However, the other two instructors taught a session or 2 of the 4 day program and were not nearly as effective. Dr. Jorgensen was good, and worthwhile. The other guy, Dr…I can’t remember his name right now, was…well, to be honest, worthless. My point is that I would check to see who is teaching level 2. If Marc Lefebre is teaching a significant amount of the program, sign up. If Jorgensen is teaching the majority of L2, I would still consider it. If the other guy is teaching the majority…I would probably pass.

DFWAnalyst, Your detailed infromation will be very helpful in making a decision. I agree with your recommendation on Marc Lefebre, as I watched his CFA level 1 videos. I found him talented and easy to understand. By the way, do you think an online Master’s in Security Analysis and Portfolio Management from Creighton University would be helpful further? Thanks,

I would try posting this in the Level 2 forum. But, it looks like LeFebrve and a few others teach the Level 2 boot camp. Check out 2011’s Boot Camp PDF http://typo3.creighton.edu/fileadmin/user/COBA/DeanDocs/CFA_flyer_2011.pdf

if you need a bootcamp, check out the PUA bootcamp, well worth the price of admission if I do say so myself.

YoungBuck, Do you have a link for the PUA bootcamp? Thanks

John Harris does the FSA, and that dude is a legend. I’d agree with DFW’s assessment on the instructors - see who all is teaching (and where you need the most help). Harris is an FSA beast, so if you need help on accounting that might make it worth you while and Jorgensen/LeFebvre carry the bulk of the rest of it you should definitely do it (my opinion).

I am thinking of Creighton for Level 3. I am not thrilled about it being at the end of May though. That last month is needed for review and putting everythng togethr. I wish it was in March.

Good call…forgot about FSA in L2 and John Harris is one of the best out there. jcole21 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > John Harris does the FSA, and that dude is a > legend. > > I’d agree with DFW’s assessment on the instructors > - see who all is teaching (and where you need the > most help). > > Harris is an FSA beast, so if you need help on > accounting that might make it worth you while and > Jorgensen/LeFebvre carry the bulk of the rest of > it you should definitely do it (my opinion).

How would you compare the Creighton class to the 3 day schweser review held in various cities?

Yes, agree with your recommendation on John Harris workshop, as I got >70% after I attended this. However, I am looking for the same level of expertise from someone else for the remaining subjects. Thanks,

I found the Creighton people to be knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Nothing bad has ever came out of Nebraska.

the CU bootcamp is the best thing that can ever happen to a CFA candidate, no joke. I took the DFW review class, which was quite underwhelming and disappointing. the instructors mainly read the slides, and the value added was close to 0 (if not negative, b/c it took time away from personal study time). the best thing to come out of it was having Marc LeFebrve be a visitng instructor for 2 classes. that dude is a CFA nina, equipped with throwing stars of knowledge. he knows the material inside out, and can answer any question you have. you will never struggle with an IPS question again (and feel like a fool for ever thinking it was hard in the first place) after his little 3 hour personal IPS session. highly, highly recommended. the price may seem steep (will run you at least $1,000, with airfare, hotel, food, etc.) but it is well worth the peace of mind of being done come mid-August.

wacc_attack, This is what I was looking for! I purchased Schweser’s premiumplus material, I found their workshop not very useful. Do you think Creighton University Boot Camp from May 10-13 would be a little late during the preparation? Or please let me know if they are offering something earlier… Thanks so much.

that was the one comment we all had this past May–move the camp up at least a week. you have 2-3 weeks once you come back, which is a little on the light side. but if you go in there somewhat prepared, the course will quickly refresh you on every topic, and point out the areas you really need to focus on. afterwards I knew which areas were my weakest, and just powered through those problem sets for the next couple of weeks. the materials you get in omaha are worth their weight in gold…if you work through everything youre given there, and know it well, you should be fine.
