I got fking mice in my pad. I’ve set traps and caught one. But for the 3rd day in a row, one or many varmints have stolen the bait in another trap. How the F can I get rid of these things? I’m not about to lay poison.
One of you CFAs have probably come up with a better mousetrap.
I had a mouse and we put down glue traps and it caught it. Also, take metal dish scrubber things (the metal brillo pad stuff?) and put them where it’s coming in to block the entrance. Hope that helps. I don’t do the humane catch bullshit
They’re coming in from somewhere and you need to locate where. Once you’ve found the hole, then you’ll need to fill it with expanding foam and wire wool; but be careful as expanding foam is pretty dangerous as it solidifies on touching liquid, including your eyes and throat.
Once you’ve blocked up all known holes, lay more trap around, put them against a wall as mice and rats like to be touching something on their sides when they run around, you can look out for black marks against walls and this will be a telltale sign of rodents using it as a pathway. I prefer snap traps to anything else, as they fast and effective. You may have some pretty cheap ones if they’re not working properly, so go to your hardware store and pick up 3/4.
Get yourself one of those plugins that emits a high frequency sound, it deters all rodents, although you need to be conscious that some rodents can get used to it and so it won’t be effective at all.
I would still lay some poison, you can normally smell a dead mouse, or rat…It’s a bad stench but can kill a whole colony if used correctly…
I recently caught a dead rat under my kitchen cupboard in a snap trap…hadn’t looked under there for a couple of weeks but there was a bad stench…when i took away the kickboard I could see lots of maggots just waiting to be hatched. I cleaned it all up though and laid some more traps…Unfortunately I still don’t know how they’re getting in…I’ve filled all visible holes.
You can get one of those cage traps. You can trap the mice live and deposit them elsewhere. The cage traps are not as effective as poison, but are more humane and less messy.
Expanding foam is a real bitch to get off your hands too, so wear disposable gloves. It also expands A LOT, so don’t go crazy with it unless you want big orange globs sticking out all over the place.
Dogs work too, either that or a cat is a sure fire way to limit the rodent population. But cats are freaky anti-social messes that poop in their houses. Gross.
I like the old school Victor traps with the metal bar acting like a guitoine. Perhaps the colony will see one go in such a nasty way that they’ll leave on their own accord.
the house i lived in at uni had a mouse problem when we moved in and we tried a number of products to get rid of them.
poison: by far and away the most effective way to get rid of a mouse problem. downside is that you have a lot of dead rotting mice around the place. we actually never found this to be a problem as we didn’t see or smell any dead mice. it really depends where their nest is.
poison boxes: same as above but it also traps them inside, expensive.
snap traps: we only ever caught 1 mouse in a trap. we seemed to be placing them in the right place but they were able to get the bait without setting it off no mater what we did, the mice we had were very small.
sticky traps: very effective if placed along the walls near where you think they’re getting in. downside is that theyrve inhumane.
High pitched plug in things: they don’t work as the mice acclimatise to it.
Didn’t try a cat but they’re quite effective. they don’t just kill a mouse, they toy with it for ages before the money shot. cats are evil.
