Is there any quick and easy way to pull something like this up? My MD calls me and says he wants a listing of all Canadian businesses with operations in the United States. He’d like a summary sheet with no more than 10 pages following. If possible, he’d like me to segregate by geography. If the list gets too long, he wants me to reduce the list by order of lowest revenue firm. !! I have the slightest idea how to gather such information. Hopefully one of you guys have a quick and dirty method for me.
http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/site/ccc-rec.nsf/en/Home goto detailed search. i have only used this a couple of times. maybe it will help?
Bloomberg might be a good starting point… use their help option and get someone from Bloomberg to aid you with this.

What an idiotic question. Why would he want such a list? I might tell him I have better things to do.
while he’s got you doing that, you should compile a list of all consumer goods that contain iron, carbon, or silicon. should be fairly easy…
how could this list possibly be useful?
I’d say your MD doesn’t really like you.
Call every single company here and ask… http://www.manta.com/NA/Canada Closest request I got (at my previous position) was to find out NAV country allocation for all companies held in this particular fund…to prepare NAV country allocation for this fund. It sounds much better after seeing this post.

Hey guys, thanks for all your input. Storko, great site, I used it exclusively to put the list together. I targeted Canadian firms with cross border business and whittled the list down to what I believe is the most relevent criteria. Joey D - The request is stupid considering the resources I have at my disposal. What I’ve put together has limited applicability. Kr - The list could be useful, but what I’ve put together is only a list of exporting firms, so you need to do extra legwork to find which firms have substantive operations in the U.S. (i.e. mfg facility, U.S. headquarters). Turkish - I dunno wtf is going on in his head to be honest : )
