DCM IB

I got an offer at a bulge bracket IB in Asia Pacific in the DCM team. How is the career on DCM?

Terrible. Give me your offer.

What does DCM mean? It is an acronym with many possible meanings. For instance, Debt Capital Markets or Data Center Management.

It’s Debt Capital Markets

I here DCM is ok–you’re not quite a banker, but you’re not quite a trader either. My friend who did it eventually left to work on a Sales and Trading desk.

BB used to mean something until recently.

What’s a DCM, did I miss the memo?

I only know a couple of people in DCM but like ahahah mentioned, the two people I know ended up going to the sales side of S&T eventually and are enjoying their careers.

I agree that BB is sort of a fuzzy definition. However, there is a reason that Nomura had to increase the salaries of its existing employees to match that of the new ex-Lehman Brothers staff that it acquired. Similarly, BAC had to give raises to its original IBankers after they acquired ML. The pay discrepancy definitely existed before the credit crisis.
