Decision Days Remaining

Yep, I have been told they are meeting this Thursday to review applications, hopefully we will hear back by Friday.

I need a hoe in my life

Lol

this feels like a shakedown - why should i be forced to apply for a local society if i dont want to? just so they can extract more $ from me?

im sure they figure they have me by the short and curlies

“nah, you know what? that extra $200 to pay to my local society isnt worth it. ill just stick with ‘passed level 3’ on my resume forever. deep down inside, just the fact that i know i passed is good enough for this guy. i dont actually need my charter and see ‘CFA’ next to my name after toiling at this for the past 4 years”

Said no one EVER.

and im still waiting for them to approve.

^applied on August 13th, and I’m still waiting, too. (Los Angeles, CA)

^^^ Waiting for the local society or the Institute to approve your work experience? I am down to Day 23 for the local society. Not to join the collective bitching…but…I do think it is absurd we put years, money, etc. and we have to wait this long to actually use the damn designation. I think it’s actually quite ridiculous this is the process from “Passed Level 3” to “Charterholder”…asinine. So technically it’s been three months since we passed the last test with appropriate work experience yet still…nothing to show for it.

^my work experience was approved by the CFA Institute in only a day or so – now I’m waiting on the CFA local society (Los Angeles) to approve me. Only 3 decision days remaining (meaning I applied just shy of 30 days ago)… Sad to say, but I’ve been checking the Web site on most days to see if I’ve been approved – nothing yet.

Yeah I just dont get how we’re being forced to apply to a local society if its “voluntary”

mine took about 3 business days to get the CFAI and local society sign off, came through on a Sunday so they’re definitely not keeping people waiting. I think a lot of it depends on your role and what you write in your submission. best to make it as easy for them as possible if you want a quick turnaround.

On a side note, I have to say that I’ve found the CFAI an absolute pleasure to deal with whenever I’ve phoned them or emailed. it makes me feel a bit bad about the fact that i wished them all to hell half way through the level 3 am paper…

I am also waiting for the CFA Los Angeles society…hopefully you’ve heard by now! My DDR is still at 8, and it started at 30, so I’m getting sick of the wait…

Los Angeles here.

My 30 days of waiting for the local society reached zero (I applied on 8/13/14), and the CFA Institute sent a “mercy” e-mail/link on Monday that granted membership after paying the dues. The catch is I also have CIPM membership, and knew that I was entitled to a discounted price. Had to wait another 3 days for them to give me the proper discount…was granted membership this afternoon.

Pretty anti-climatic way to cross the finish line – but it was nice to finally see “CFA” after my name on the Institute’s Web site.

So, my local society tells me that I need to pay the $300 application fee in order to be approved before the 30 days are over. This can’t be correct; has anyone else had this experience? The local society review is independent of your decision to join the local society, no?

NYSSA does that. Just pay the membership if your er rebimburses.

To repeat this question, is the local society review independent of your decision to join the local society (specifically, NYSSA)? I would much rather not pay the $325 to join, as I don’t believe it would be worth it for me. Are there any cons to not joining a local society?

Also, if I can get a reference from a CFA Charterholder that is NOT a member of my local society, will I still need three references, or just two?

Thanks

I applied some months ago, it was probably not a season - quite logically, as you had a handful of months to go with the past membership fee.

Work experience approval took less than 24 hours, including the local society.

Of course, it took longer to receive all the passwords, 3-4 weeks maybe.
