Degrees of freedom

dear all- when calculating test statistic using F test, numerator is the bigger variance and denominator is the smaller one. My question is what about degrees of freedom when looking at the F values table. Is the degrees of freedom corresponding to larger variance (numerator) first degree of freedom and the one corresponding to smaller variance (denominator) the second degree of freedom. What is the usual practice?

Thanks

The number of degrees of freedom for the numerator is in the top row of the table; the number of degrees of freedon for the denominator is in the left column of the table.

okay thanks a lot for your help

My pleasure.
