Wow, just read the account for the first time (probably the last person on the internet to do so). They really should go eye for an eye with the perpetrators (once proven) or burn them at the stake or something. I’m down for either Old Testament or Medieval treatment. It is seriously anger inducing, feel like I need to go for a run or a shot or something to calm down.
Manohar Lal Sharma said his clients will plead not guilty to all charges today when they make their next court appearance. His comments come as Indians have reacted with outrage to the opinions of politicians and a religious preacher who have accused westernized women of inviting sexual assaults. Sharma said the male companion of the murdered 23-year-old was “wholly responsible” for the incident as the unmarried couple should not have been on the streets at night.
“Until today I have not seen a single incident or example of rape with a respected lady,” Sharma said in an interview at a cafe outside the Supreme Court in India’s capital. “Even an underworld don would not like to touch a girl with respect.”

This is seriously fucked up… I just can’t understand this level of narrow-mindedness.
Excellent, I can’t wait for the bashing this guy is going to get (and fully deserves).
If a crystal clear, public case like this one doesn’t result in a death penalty for the 6 accused, god help India’s justice system.
Even god cant help the present judicial system unfortunately :((((((((
I expected this case to last for at least 20 years. That’s India.
Naming the rape victims before the trials could risk the victims being attacked on their character and stories made the public.
Election Reforms, Police Reforms, Judicial Reforms what ever f*ck that is required to improve the the overall quality of life of every Indian are already there on the table.
Politicians are so crooked that they dont event want to table those bills in the parliament, forget about getting them passed.
In one way i admire this guy, for the sole reason that he is publicly dangling out his dick and pissing on the judicial system of the country and one way bringing the outrage across all the sections of the society and alteast make politicians feel the pinch of the people that some thing needs to be done.
what do you mean?
the only people who would attack her character are backward minded sadhus and politicians.they will lash out anyway they can because the writing’s on the wall for the them.they won’t go quietly but the sadhus/godmen are finished.
the smart ones are the one’s opening edu institutionals etc.the girl’s family have said they don’t mind her name being released and if the reform laws are named after her it could leave a positive legacy.
there is no way the case will last 20 years.the govern will want to finsh this as quickly as possible to avoid further coverage.
it might be too early for meaningful reform but the signs are there.it will come.i wonder if they’ll be hanged though.perhaps an example needs to be made
Chicken Tikka called me a retard for the post.
In one bbc article, BBC claimed, “Musicians and Bollywood film-makers are suddenly under pressure to justify songs and movies that portray women as sex objects.”
Here is the link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20910661
Dal, there is no question the film fraternity has a paternalistic and misogynistic attitude towards women. However, is that the cause of violence on women or merely reflective of the attitude towards women in modern society?
Is an item number like “sheila” any worse than your average Shakira or Britney Spears song? Simply put, Bollywood will make songs that they think people will want, and people do want “Dhak Dhak”.
It’s very convenient to blame, “item numbers” or “westernization” or “revealing clothing” or “alcohol” or “going out at night”, are any of them the cause? Nope.
