derivatives Schweser 2017 vs CFAI books

Everyone else noticed the big difference between the formulas and how the topics about forwards and futures are explained between Schweser notes and the CFAI curriculum?

I tried to solve the CFAI EOC for Readings 40 and having read the theory on the schweser notes I have to say I wasn’t able to solve a few questions. Even looking at the solution I have some troubles… It seems as the Schwser formulas are something completely different and can’t be used (I am talking especially regarding currency forward contracts,…)

Yes they notation in the CFAI readings have been changed completely.

The good thing is derivatives have not changed, so if you can get your head around what the symbols and notations mean you should be able to apply the same formulas as shown in the schweser material.

My advise is to ignore shweser completely and go with what is in the CFA reading. Mark Meldrum’s videos on derivatives are very helpful and clarify things in a very logical and understandable way.

I’m happy to send you my notes with explanation if you want.

Frank

Go for Mark Meldrum’s videos videos on Vimoe.com It only cost $17 per month and you will be able to understand Derivatives completely. I subscribed to Mark Meldrum’s videos for CFA Level 2 some time ago and am very happy.

I tried to solve the CFAI exercises with schwser formulas and I wasn’t able and to be honest, I understood all the Schweser exercises and blue boxes related to derivatives, but as soon as I move onto CFAI material then I am lost (I refer only about futures, forwards and swaps. Options are ok).

For example this simple formula: Vt (T) = PVt,T[Ft (T) – F0(T)] is not to find in the schweser notes, also this one for example: Ft (¥/,T) = St (¥/)FV¥,t,T(1)/FV$,t,T(1)

I would be very happy if you could send me your notes, thanks!!

Hi Frank

Can you please send your notes to me @ riyadctg@gmail.com?

Thanks in advance.

Riyad

I haven’t gotten to the derivatives part. So are all 3 derivative chapters in Schweser different from the CFA books ? or just the 1st one ?
