Did you know

that you can have a non-GIPS compliant advertisement and still say the firm complies with GIPS

example?

how/why…?

The GIPS Advertising Guidelines provide FIRMS with options for advertising performance when mentioning the FIRM’S claim of compliance. The GIPS Advertising Guidelines do not replace the GIPS standards, nor do they absolve FIRMS from presenting a COMPLIANT PRESENTATION as REQUIRED by the GIPS standards. These guidelines only apply to FIRMS that already satisfy all the REQUIREMENTS of the GIPS standards on a FIRM-wide basis and claim compliance with the GIPS standards in an advertisement. FIRMS that choose to claim compliance in an advertisement MUST follow the GIPS Advertising Guidelines or include a COMPLIANT PRESENTATION in the advertisement. This from the CFA GIPS website. I was hoping to make this thread into a “did you know” thread to give everyone some food for thought on little things that they can trip you up on.

Man…starting to lose hope once again when shit like this keeps coming up…

In the final days, the best strategy is to focus on things you know… not on things you don’t know, which only hurt your confidence!

how can that be right? If you are publishing something that has non-compliant data on it in an advertisement, how can you say that the firm is GIPS compliant? That is synonymous with saying that you can be GIPS compliant even if you have a non-compliant presentation. If you read through the book it says that Advertising guidelines are mandatory for firms that are GIPS compliant and recommended for all other firms…

+1

willi is right - that is not correct - the thing to know is that you can claim compliance with GIPS in an advertisement without a performance presentation - that’s it

i was just using that as an example…the bottom line is that you can’t have an advertisement that is not compliant and then still claim that you are compliant with GIPS
