Distance running advice?

Week 6 update - ran three 1-mile repeats at an average pace of 8:30, which is my target race pace so feeling pretty good about that with 3 weeks to go. Hoping to cut another 15-30 seconds off of that but I’ll be happy if I can run that speed for 5k.

Attempting a 10k run this weekend. Kind of crazy to think that a month and a half ago I couldn’t even run 5 minutes without stopping to catch my breath.

So I got back on the workout wagon finally. I have that stretch goal of the NYC mile race in September if I wind up near a 5 minute pace (unlikely) but am just going to start with the basics and see where I end up and if I take a little longer to get to that point may look at either races later in the fall or just training up for next year. My calves have always been extremely under developed versus the rest of my running muscles because I tend to heel strike pretty heavily so I’m starting off on vibram five fingers and building up from there. I tried this in the past but I was already running relatively quick marathons and didn’t want to waste the time going back to basics and surrendering mileage. Although I did end up running a marathon on them once against better judgment. Within a mile today I was getting crazy tightness in my calves and feeling pretty spent so this will be an interesting experience training on these. I’m looking forward to it.

I am most likely doing the 5th Ave. mile again this year. Look out boys!

Did my first 10K run last week - came in at exactly an hour which I’m pretty happy about since I deliberately ran at a slow enough pace to be able to sing along to my playlist the whole time. Going to try for 7 miles tomorrow.

I’m looking forward to dusting you haha

lol

my cowoker was talking so much sh*t about running and all that stuff so i told her i can do a 6 minute mile to shut her up.

so i have to run one mile in 6 min or under in the next month. is this possible? i remember the world record was 4 minutes or maybe under so i figured an extra 2 minutes shouldnt be a problem, right?

I believe in you igor. Its gonna hurt though. Also, have you done it before? I feel running is a mental game.

goodluck you’re gonna need it :+1:

is 1 lap in under 1:30 too much? im not really a runner but i feel going all out for 1 dang mile can be done in under 6 min.

or it might be me just crying inside and hoping for a miracle.

what would be the best way to train? i actually made the bet last week so i only have 3 weeks to train.

i might have over-estimated my abilities here…

What does your current running program look like? Whats the most running you have ever done in the past?

i dont have a program. i was planning on winging it and going all out for 4 laps.

If you set the treadmill to 10mph, how long can you hold on?

I think you can MAYBE do 7 min. It does not look good for you Igor. Have you ever even run a mile?

I mean, I run them regularly, but the one month deadline could be a challenge.

Yeah, that’s kinda what I’m thinking about Bench Press. The record is 1075 pounds, so surely I can do 800, right? How hard can it be?

that sounds crazy, is 10mph the pace i should be striving for?

yea i ran a mile before. actually ran many miles but have not done any running in a long time.

yeah 10mph on a treadmill is the same as 6:00/mile or 1:30/lap

mlb record for fastest pitch is around 100mph, how fast would i have to throw a ball to equate me running a 6 minute mile vs the record of 4 minute mile?
