I have the 2008 Schweser books and hesitant to buy the 2009 if there are no major changes. Anyone can refer me where i can find the addition/deletion to 2009 materials. Thanks
supersharpshooter did a fantastic comparison between the two: http://geocities.com/af2k9/ Kudos to SSS!
This looks like negligible changes. Are many AFers using the 2008 curriculum?
I forgot to ask you SSS, are you a jungle/d&B fan?
yep aliman, big fan, i was listening to that track while signing up for AF to ppl who use the geocities site: it’s just a general overview and i would suggest checking LOS by LOS if you want to be more rigorous http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/resources/pdf/LII_Outlines_Combined.pdf even if two readings are similar/changed the LOS are what calls the shots
One thing I just noticed is that there isn’t much on EVA in the residual income section. Instead of defining it as “NOPAT - $WACC” its "NOPAT - C% * TC) In 08 $WACC = WACC * Invested Capital, where invested capital = net working capital + net PP&E = LT debt + stockholder’s equity In 09 all were told is C% is the cost of capital and TC is total capital. Neither one is defined any further. There also isn’t any info given on EVA spread, return on invested capital, how to implement a stock election strategy using EVA, or ways to increase EVA
also the Stalla site has done a pretty good job of comparing 2008 and 2009 LOSs including stating that Reading is the same Name - but has different / changed LOSs. (In case you are interested)

I used to spin that stuff for a few years. Unfortunately, I’ve drifted away from the scene. I remember the days of seeing DJ Hype & Zinc, I was like 15 or 16 years old!
dj hype!! lol. how bout that AK1200 or Aphrodite??? i spin house. progressive house. or at least i did, until i decided to take on the CFA. its almost impossible to try and be creative while studying for these exams so i am on a spinngin hiatus…only spinnin at the clubs once per month if that http://www.xstreamist.com/members/643/audio.php
I’m using Schweser notes from '08, and along with this years QBank I’m finding 90% of the information I need in Schweser.
Not wise to use 2008 materials for either Schweser or CFAI curriculum… As for CFAI curriculum, Corp Fin readings, LOS, and examples are word for word the same as 2008 but end of chapter questions now have only 3 options, not 4 Ethics, Quant, and Derivatives are the same, but you need 2009 Qs Economics and FSA: Even tho the topics may seem similar, there are LOTS of new readings, new editions of old readings, new examples, new Qs, and changes of LOS in CFAI curriculum. Be aware that some chapters of Schweser may look the same from year to year, even when CFAI readings are different. Here’s where you really need the new materials for both CFAI and Schweser --20-35% of exam Alternative Asset Valuation is a separate topic area in 2009 with 2 new readings: R48 Private Equity Valuation, R49 Commodities, 5-15% of exam Fixed Income: R53 The Liquidity Conundrum is new. Fabozzi readings are the same but note they are from 2nd ed of his book Portfolio Mgmt: Readings 66,67,69, 71 the same but R68 has a new edition of Solnik with new examples, etc. R70 is a NEW reading on taxes NB The above list may not be comprehensive but proceed at your own risk with old materials…

I’m a big Deadmau5 fan too
