Does CFA help to switch from IT to finance?

Since it is a common concern for people with substantial IT exp. but no finance exp whether CFA will add value. I wanted to ask if there are people that have made the switch successfuly, if they can share their experiences. So, my questions are: 1.What is the short term and long term job prospects of a CFA for an IT guy? How many are finding the CFA worth while? Is the salary as per your expectaions? 2.Since this is no MBA, we do not have the advantage of an alumni. So after getting the charter, how do you network and make connections? 3.How do you land your first finance job? Is the CFAI local chapter of any help in this regard? Or do you start by volunteering for a not-profit firm? Besides, this forum, what other sources do you use for networking/finding jobs/discussing career options(apart from linkedin)? Thanks!

It will definitely help, although “getting it” is the hard part.

most IT people dont have the personality types that recruiters look for to hire, or the network to land a job in the first place so they give up after taking L1 and getting nowhere. Does it help? Yeah because you learn about finance and wont look like a fool when asked to get to FCFF from EBITDA. But that is also like saying it helps a 15 year old Colombian student get a job at Goldman Sachs - it helps but to what end? Keep in mind that it is not 1 test, it is 3 tests with a minimum of 1.5 years of studying. Its not something you just pick up and pass. Just passing 1 exam doesnt mean anything, nothing special happens after you pass except that you change your resume. The rest is up to you. That said if you really want to work in finance you can find a way. Lastly, this has been discussed 100x times so use the search function. Its almost funny…

100x times? You are funny

Yeah, starbuk, stop being a jerk. eagles, you should search for “qqqbee”. This will give you valuable information about your hopeful transition.
