First time in 5 years you have ever agreed with yours truly.

I’m very confused what JOE’s position is.
Missionary at the moment.

First time in 5 years you have ever agreed with yours truly.
I think it happened once before, but I can’t recall the specifics.

I agree. Don is free to have whatever opinions he has, but as an NBA owner he has a responsibility to represent the league in a positive manner.
Also agreed. You’re free to hate anybody you want for any reason. But you don’t have the right to mistreat people. (Not that anybody was mistreated in this case.)
And that also doesn’t excuse you from the consequences of said actions. Even if he’s okay from a strictly legal point of view, he’s guilty in the court of public opinion, which is far worse when you’re in the limelight or a business owner. Just ask Paula Deen.

I think she’s doing just fine now. Quick google search confirmed, buy your tickets on ticketmaster now.

This is kind of what is funny about this situation. Like someone else said these were known facts this guy didn’t like minorities. All of a sudden we manufacture outrage, but we’ll forget it in a few months. Kony 2012.

I don’t think it as manufactured. Many people (like me) have no time to keep up with every single piece of trivia about NBA owners. It became news when it was thrust in the limelight. Kind of like Clinton and Jennifer Flowers (and Monica.) Nobody cared when he was a governor of an obscure state, banging away merrily.
All this talk of “rights” is nonsense. There is no right to be a racist. That is, if you believe that rights don’t flow from the government but from the creator (or conscience, for atheists.) Legally, it is irrelevant. But the society has a “right” to slap you silly, metaphorically, if you behave like an asshole.

Agree with this part of naren_'s post. I had never heard of Don Sterling before this, but I find the NBA to be very boring.

That’s what I meant–legally. Philosphical/conscience/religious rights are a whole different animal. And what somebody believes politically doesn’t necessarily equal what they believe religiously.
verdict is in $5mm fine and indefinite suspension. not commenting on whether or not it’s fair/just or not, but seems like a lotta $$$ (not that this fool can’t afford it)
^How do you “indefinitely suspend” an owner? Tell him he’s not allowed to write paychecks anymore? Blake Griffin won’t like that. He’ll have to resort to doing more Kia commercials.

yeah not real sure, kinda weird. its like they want to ban him permanantly but dont have they cajones to do it so they just take the most passive way around it hoping he’ll just quit or something
EDIT: nevermind this fool just got AXED! and only the league max $2.5mm
Craig Cobb>Don Sterling
$5 million and life time ban for some old dude going on a rant? If we could just go around fining old dudes for saying racist (and other shit), we would have… well, a lot of money.
Lawsuit coming. So if instead it became known that he has fatheads of his players defaced with racial epitaphs hanging in his home, would the reaction have been the same? I’m fairly certain if some of the players thoughts about some owners became public, it would not be pretty.
Glad this asshole got what he deserved.
He’s going to pay the girl off. Get her to claim they were role playing. It is the only way he can perform, so what is a guy to do? This is going to bite the NBA. Have the two parties even been deposed?..And in other news, mass murders are happening around the World.
I wish Gregg Popovich were doing the press conference.
Pop: “Big fine. He’s out.”
Press: “Could you quantify the size of the fine and the duration of the suspension.”
Pop: “A lot. And forever.”

Haha, very good.
Yeah…I assume the NBA will take this opportunity to extract max value for the Clippers. Quite opportune. Not that I’m suggesting anything.
I’m surprised the NBA is moving this quickly. Has he agreed to the fine or does he have room to fight it?
