http://www.finra.org/Industry/Compliance/Registration/QualificationsExams/RegisteredReps/Qualifications/p011105 Can a research analyst who has passed CFA Level I and II obtain a exemption from Series 86? A research analyst who has passed both Level I and Level II of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Examination that is administered by the CFA Institute may request an exemption from Part I (Series 86), the Analysis section of the Research Analyst Qualification Examination. To be eligible for the exemption, an applicant must have passed Levels I and II of the CFA examination and must either (1) have functioned continuously as a research analyst since having passed Level II of the CFA examination or (2) have passed Level II of the CFA examination within two years of application for registration as a research analyst. Can a request for an exemption (waiver) of the Series 87 be granted for someone who has Series 7, CFA Levels I, II, & III, and the NYSE Series 16? Waivers of the Series 87 will NOT be granted under any circumstances.

I’m pretty sure that having a CFA designation works in place of the education requirements to sit for the CPA exam (meaning: you don’t have to have an accounting undergrad…at least in my state, you can’t sit for the CPA without having an accounting undergrad or the equivalent coursework). Not exactly what you asked, but I think it’s good to know.

guys … any exemptions if u pass level 1 or level 2 frm the msc degree?

Hi padniaki - where did you hear that from? I’m a CPA but never heard of that rule… Just curious…

It exempts you from the 86 yuo have to take the 87 (the ethics portion) no matter what

Can someone tell me the names of good universities, that provide distance MSc course. I have passed my level 1 examination. Will i get any exemptions as i cleared the level 1 exam.

What my original post said applies to the CFP exam, NOT the CPA exam. Thank you for calling that to my attention. (link: http://www.cfp.net/become/education.asp About halfway down, under the heading “Challenge Status”) To the original poster, there is a part of the CFA Institute site that goes into detail on certain recognitions/exemptions, etc. The page can be found here: http://www.cfainstitute.org/ethics/regulatory/Pages/index.aspx

oh yes sorry, i made a typo, it exempts you from the Series 86, not 87
