Duty charges for CFA printed books

Hi,

I am based in London. Ordered printed copy of CFA L2 books. Now UPS says I need to pay 30.2 GBP duty on this.

Has anyone else faced similar issue? I remember for L1 I didnt paid anything extra apart from what CFA charged me for postage.

That does seem odd… I don’t know how different UK is from Canada, but I haven’t paid duty on level 1 cfai or schweser. I was under the impression that educational materials are duty free? Might be worth talking to the supervisor at the post about it before paying up, possibly even talking to CFAI about getting reimbursed or something if they just forgot to mark it “educational”?

How else are they going to pay for London 2012?

Thats rediculous. Are the books also “lower” quality than level 1?

Update-Called up UPS, it appears that “education” was marked right at the bottom and missed at customs. Now they will ask HM Revenue to refund and then I should get the money back. Looking minimum 3/4 weeks to resolve this.

Yes-The book quality is not matching previous versions.

Good to hear you are getting the money back!

Its totally ridiculous to pay 30 odd GBP for this!

Hi Sooraj,

Yes.Still I would believe only when I get the refund cheque in due course.

Yep - I got that one of the years (think it was Level II). Didn’t get my tax refund though.
