To earn a CPA designation is an undergrad degree in accounting required? I’m considering some additional education/certifications in finance and accounting, but do not have an accounting degree, bachelor in finance, currently work in research sales, taking level two CFA next year. Is it possible to earn accounting credits online, anyone familiar with reputable places? Thanks, John

You will not be able to get the designation until you complete like 2000 audit hours its next to impossible to get CPA after your name unless you can get those audit hours…which would mean a career change you can take and pass the exams though i think
Actually, builders, you are wrong. You need to have a certain amount of credits, in certain accounting related classes, in order to sit for the CPA exam, depending on the state. Once that’s complete, again, depending on the state, you need work experience but, it does not have to be audit related, at least not anymore in NY State. It has to be accounting related work experience and you have to work under a CPA. You can even teach accounting and it would count now. I would go on the AICPA’s website for further info.
How does the CPA compare to the CFA in terms of difficulty ?
I heard it’s comparable to level 1. Will be taking it soon. Wake can comment on that.
erm…the WHOLE of CPA is only comparable to CFA lvl 1?? really?
hey, i’m a CPA - i had passed the old pencil & paper test, so i cant speak to the new format - but overall, CPA was much easier for me than CFA
As a CPA and having passed level 2, combining all four sections of CPA (new format) is not even close to being comparable to Level 1. CPA is much much much easier, and don’t even think about comparing it to Level 2.
Each state is different regarding the education requirements. I have an MBA with a concentration in finance along with a bachelor’s in business - yet still fall short of the required accounting courses (accounting hours and course-specific classes). Check your state’s requirements.
Probably about as difficult, but you don’t have to pass sections of the test in sequence. Alladin Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How does the CPA compare to the CFA in terms of > difficulty ?

In NY you need 150 credit hours, which is pretty much a master’s or equivalent. I think a few other states have followed suit.

Also a CPA having passed Level 1. Guy above is right on. Just make sure you still study though.
