Ok guys, I am an Elan fan after using it for L1. I mainly chose them since they had fantastic reviews and quite reasonable compared to the competitors. I dont know what to do for L2! Its Elan’s first time so I have no idea what type of job they will do (I hope it is outstanding) On the other hand Schweser has pretty good reviews for L2…I saw Elan’s site and their schedule for releasing notes etc, They haven’t been pretty good with timing so i cant comment on their accuracy this time. What should i do…make the switch to schweser or stick with Elan…I am sure there are others who are facing the same dilemma?
right. it is elan’s first time so i would avoid it. take the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach like i did. schweser did an excellent job for level 1 for me, and did it for me in level 2.
Same dilemma baps. Here’s my strategy. Get my hands on used Schweser notes. CFAI has removed several chapters and added one so I think last years notes will be very useful. I’ll also get certain subjects from Elan as they are made available. I don’t think the fact that theyre new is much of a deal. Only time will tell I’m guessing. They’re putting up quant for free next month so we’ll have an idea… I’ll probably start in November.
I just got an email from them saying that they will not offer any practice questions either…OUCH! I think i will go with schweser and maybe use elan for selected topics.
thats a question of $370 and $900 I used elan for L1 and passed. do not know about schweser. costwise its a big difference. not an easy decision. If I can afford it, is it worth going for schweser even with such a price difference. you might pass even if you use elan’s first L2 venture. but as someone put it, the schedule is quite slow. some videos coming only by March. the printed notes coming only by January.
*gasp* 900 dollars!? Isn’t that more expensive than the CFA L2 registration?..personally i’d just stick to the CFAI books…ain’t got that cash to burn !
Elan will neither offer any practice questions nor any packages. They will give the Electronic version of Quants for free and offer the rest topic wise and 1 mock exam. The schedule for delivery is from September to January. Their level 1 stuff was excellent except ethics. However they don’t stick to their delivery schedule. they are always late.I will stick to CFAI texts and 2011 schweser. Fewer readings in 2012 anyway.
what is $900??? Schweser study notes are like $375 right? And that comes with the notes, end of chapter questions, and 6 practice exams. Besides, the whole reason for getting Schweser is the notes, which cut the amount of material to read in half. If you haven’t heard, Q Bank is worthless for Level 2. Either way, you WILL have to look at the CFAI books if you want to pass. You’ll have to do ALL the EOC questions and review the CFAI book a good deal. Schweser will get you 80% of the way there, but the rest is the CFAI books.
well notes is $130 for elan. http://www.elansguides.com/docs/L2-availability.pdf I look for the package with some videos. for Level 1. I didnt read CFAI text at all. but did the EOC qustions. read all elan notes. watched few videos. did one stalla mock exam. thats all I did. might have spent 400 to 500 hours. I come from a non-finance background. so think videos might help.
now on top of this, elan is giving 20% discount to returning customers. I think we can have elan and questions from someone else.
