Done a lot of thinking lately about things I wish I had done when I was younger. For example I wish I studied more in school, I wish I majored in something different. I wish I lived life more in college. My question is now I am questioning whether finance is the field I should be in. I think I have put in too many years but wondering if there are any older, wiser people on here who care to share their experiences or regrets. Sorry to be a downer but thanks in advance.
I’d say you’re already lost if you’re questioning. I’ve known since I was 3 and have unwaivered in my decision as nothing else shows any interest to me.
Probably easier to move from finance to other fields than vice versa. So if you are questioning things, that’s not necessarily bad. I have a whole list of things I wish I’d done too. Most people will have several careers in their lives. So don’t worry too much about that. Just make sure you realize that changing careers can take a LOONG time, and plan the jump accordingly. Cheers
I only regret that I have but one life to give to my country
I regret I don’t live in Texas where the legal age of consent is 17…

You have been helpful in the past, so I am curious as to some things you wish you have done. Any insight?
There is no time like the present. If you are unhappy, then do something about it. Go back to school. Study something else. Live. The way you framed your questions its almost as if you are looking for someone to talk you out of doing that. But I think you just answered your own questions. Always remember that no man is rich enough to buy back his past.

Lots of people regret their move into finance industry these days. Though I love the area, it is awfully painful to survive these days. With market flooded with so many qualified people, it is a very crowded market with very few opportunities. I know people who have come from outside areas (consultancy, accounting, IT etc) are going back. For those who always worked on the buy/sell side, it is tough, but on the positive side, it may reduce competition as so many people exit the industry.
