The only rule I’ve heard about what constitutes a person being able to call themselves “Native American” is the 1/16th requirement to get a college scholarship. That’s one full-blooded great-great grandparent. From the little I’ve read, Warren is likely 6 to 10 generations away from native blood. So, she wouldn’t come close to qualifying for a scholarship at any of the universities she taught at.
But, I guess she can keep claiming it to get ahead even if her students can’t. Seems totally legit, not at all hypocritical, and like something an honest person with integrity would do.
Also worth noting that so called native Americans are the most subsidized ethnic group in the country, yet are consistently the worst off, most addicted etc. Coincidence?
And you say the left is obsessed with race? You turned something from lies about how Liz Warren got into school to straight up racism. This belongs on Stormfront.
The statistic isn’t racist, it’s a fact. You bringing it up for no reason is what makes it racist. You turning this into a thread from Liz Warren into statistics about poverty/alcoholism is sad.
Actually since this forum deals with economics etc the statistic was to prove a point about how entitlements affect the recipients over generations. You are the racist for assuming that i was saying anything else.
Victims of genocide, stolen land and centuries of racism have struggled to get on their feet after being given peanuts in return. It’s truly hard to fathom.
Endless excuses. Whats the solution, keep giving more money? Keep paying them for water rights etc? If not for that, they would be light years ahead of where they are.
All I’m saying is, a complete analysis of the state of Native Americans must include those variables. Simply saying that they are “highly subsidized” and have thus becomes alcoholics is absurd. These people are not being provided with capital, they get subsistence income at best.
yeah, i agree with the 1/16 rule. you at least have to match up to the commonly accepted standard before making a claim that you are something. i’m undisputedly at least 1% german. am i’m allowed to identify as german and german alone despite being 80x more scottish/irish/english? if we go down the road of identifying as the least of our identifying factors, what’s the point in identifying?
i’m 1/6 french canadian. despite being better than 1/16, i highly doubt i’ll be accepted as french canadian as i walk around northern quebec inadvertantly pissing on their culture with my terrible anglicism.
