Energy Risk Professional (ERP)

Hi guys, Still looking forward I wonder if any people here have taken the ERP exam? If so, did they find any overlap with CFA? (I guess all the financial instruments parts should be…) How hard do you assess it? I know it’s quite specific but all opinions welcome. Paul

Hi Pauluss, as far as I know the ERP exam has not been administered yet, so other than what you can find on the official GARP homepage I don’t think there is *any* information about it out there yet.

My colleague is taking it, I have seen the syllabus- some of the risk topics overlap with FRM. It’s not for investment, just for specializing in energy related risk management. Course covers topics like Crude/Products price curves, forward curves, origin-destination based valuation of price curves, densities of different crudes, how trades are priced and so on. I think the derivatives topics overlaps with CFA level 2- thats the only similarity i’ve seen so far.

I didn’t know that there wasn’t any exam yet… Some of my colleagues are also doing it and I wondered the added value to talk about taking it during an interview  Wait & See then - Paul

Are you sure you don’t want to be a “Business Underwriting Risk Professional”? That would be… BURP!

I could see ERP becoming very relevant in the future, especially as energy becomes a more and more hot topic. Hopefully the curriculumn examines this so called green initiative and the ramifications of a carbon tax or credit situation.
