engagement pressure

you’re in minnesota, you’ll figure it out

Then you’re getting a hamilton from jomashop instead of the Yachtmaster from Rolex Boutique

My worry about that would be facing opposition to spending the money I earn on stuff she would feel is extravagant or pointless, like if I bought another expensive watch, or wanted to trade my current POS car for a Porsche.

While my college gf had many flaws (as did I), we always matched either super well on finances. We were both from similar upper middle class backgrounds, and coincidentally were both on the same page about our approach to finances.

True, it’s pros and cons. Generally I’m happy with the setup. It definitely raises the difficulty over the near term in getting established financially, but over a longer time horizon I can see things will be good. She has pretty low expecations and is happy with a simple life so while the asset base and earnings power is low, the liability side is pretty light too with no student debt as well.

Yeah, I could see that, but so far that hasn’t been our dynamic. She recognizes that I’m the earner and gives me say over the finances, which is nice. That being said, I do try to keep things focused towards a common goal.

jesus wept, I suggested that women should get to do a speech at their wedding if they so desire and you guys make out like I suggested that we all chop off our bollocks and go make daisy chains.

Also love how G and Turd somehow make it political, nice work guys. And supyogov has got to be the cringiest guy on this site since Rahul departed.

BS, I agree with everything in the 1st paragraph (bar the 1st sentence) and all I’m really saying is that people shouldn’t feel duty bound to do things in certain ways. Traditions clearly change and adapt over time and people should do what works for them and not what they think is expected of them. I imagine most women would love to have their dad walk them down the isle and dance with them on their wedding day so I’m not saying that we should throw out all traditions.

The wedding I went to was very religious (proper dour old school calvanist where you go straight to hell if you smile while in the church ) despite the fact that neither the groom or bride are religious at all. The bride earns more than the groom and they were paying for it themselves yet the father of the bride’s speech was longer than the grooms or the best mans speech and it was like he’d been waiting his whole life to give a best mans speech but was never asked.

IMO having your parents or the brides parents paying for your wedding is hacksaw.

^ I wasn’t specifically referencing you (I actually meant the post directly above that one). It just got to the point later in the thread where the bride being given away by the father was treated as a misogynistic outrage which was as bit far.

No, I’m not. Does MN have the world’s best BBQ? Are they home to the reigning World Series Champions? Will their football team hoist the Lombardi trophy at the end of this season?

Yes, home of Ivy, Palmer Square and American Century…

Just to name a few. We have several shops here that are doing pretty well. KC tends to fly under the radar, but we have a lot of good asset managers here, not to mention some of the largest RIA shops in the country.

*spits coffee everywhere*

LOL

You guys sure are confident with Janeane Garofalo starting your first four games.

… dude.

Haha what? I never even brought up NE. You’re the one proclaiming a SB trophy one season removed from the first playoff victory since grunge was cool. Over Brian Hoyer, no less.

So you don’t think the Pats are going all the way this year? That’d be the first time I’ve heard that from a NE fan.

(Side note: Is grunge no longer cool? I’ve been wearing flannel in the summer for no reason?)

I mean of course I think that. That’s a default setting. I don’t have the admin access to change that either. Brady missing four games (three of which are entirely winnable on defense alone) hasn’t seemed to change the Vegas odds - Pats are still favorites. So I guess KC is a better bang for your buck in the end. Andy Reid to the Super Bowl confirmed.

Big Red will only ever get to them, not win them. If there was ever a coach that could make a bad team decent it sure was him though.

I’ll take that. He gets us there then ODs on BBQ a day before the Super Bowl. Chiefs will be extra pumped and we’ll have better clock management regardless.

Really would be great for you guys. I still think AR’s lack of clack management skills go back to his kindergarten days. I think he struggled to read a clock then, as he does now.

From those identifiers, I still don’t know where you’re located. Might as well be Minnesota.
