Engineers

Any Engineers out there writing this exam. I’m not sure why i’m writing this exam but wanted to know what the rest of the engineers are planning to do with the CFA. I’ve already gone through the pains of studying but wanted some motivation to keep me going til exam day. As the saying goes, “NO pain, NO gain”, i’ve definitely gone through the pain but want to know the gain. Good Luck all, if you think luck will help you on this exam.

What species of engineer are you? Mechanical, civil, electrical, aerospace, . . . ?

Chem eng by trade, working in the oil industry currently as petroleum eng

Do you know the difference between a mechanical engineer and a civil engineer?

I have a masters degree in Engineering but I’ve never worked a day as an Engineer… does that count?

Isn’t mechanical for things like engines and civil for things like bridges?

Are you trying to get into ER? You’d be a perfect fit - all the energy research groups want guys with pet-e backgrounds, and cfa is a good way to bridge the gap between technical and finance

Mechanical engineers build weapons; civil engineers build targets.

Haha

I would say 80% of the fixed income guys at my firm have engineering/science backrounds - followed by MBA finance + CFA

Mathematician here. We outengineer the engineers.

Did design warheads for 10 years; I’m a de facto mechanical engineer.

I’m also Chem Eng undergrad, worked at refinery as process engineer, just finished my MBA.

Beng Mechanical over here. I think I studied harder for L2 then I did for any year of my degree… I was chasing too much tail back then.

I’m in corporate banking now…Credit Analyst

Mechanical Engineer here, never built any weapons, went straight into finance. Also CFA curriculum needs more quant sections and less touchy feely wordy type sections.

Financial engineers are more powerful, they cripple global economies with derivatives.

Broth,

you have your Peng, MBA, and soon to be CFA CHartholder. What are you doing with all this knowledge?
